I've had mine ( 12 ga. ) opened to "Skeet" and "Light Modified" .005" & .015"
It works very well for grouse, woodcock, pheasant & chukar with lead and well enough with steel for ducks & geese over decoys.

My current 20 gauge SXS is choked IC/M , and the 28 gauge that I have on order will be choked the same. That being said, it is unlikely that I will shoot steel out of either of them.

I have 3 sxs guns that are f/m and one that is f/xf and a very light weight in f/cyl. I prefer tighter chokes as well but larger size steel BBs and sxs guns with tight chokes aren't the best combination

I'm curious as to the make and model of fixed choke double you're getting opened for steel. I hunt with an older fellow who had his BSS opened in a single barrel so it is now choked mod/mod, he doesn't miss many birds and he claims it eliminated his major gripe against the gun from the days of lead, the non selective trigger doesn't effect his ability to choose choke.

Planning to open up a vda.e hijos De jj sarasqueta eibar. It has a greener cross bolt and decent grained wood. I'll have the forcing cones reamed as well. Think a kickeez pad will add the perfect bit of length I want as well
The gun is no gem and has little value. It will always be a $250 gun. Might as well make a use for it as it just sits in the rack

Barrel thickness where you are going to open up the forcing cones? (Do some reading on the British forums)

With your hunting gear on?

How much is your hand / forearm worth (See answer to comment 1 above)?

Typically lengthening the forcing cone will not weaken the barrels as the taper of the cones is greater than the taper of the outside of the barrels over the same area. (Check on specific gun). Your concerns should really be directed towards the lengthening of chambers, as that WILL thin the barrel walls exactly at the point of greatest pressure, something Brybenn did not indicate he was considering.

I'm keeping it 2-3/4". The man I plan to do the work is very experienced and does amazing work.

I do need an extra 1/4". I'm not planning on using this gun during the late season so the extra thickness of coats won't be an issue. I use a sxs 10 ga or pump for late season hunting
