SxS for under 500?

well, its on the way
got a brno from trade ex
-talked to them abit and they sent me large pic's of the ones that i liked
- wood had some finish problems, but what do you expect on an older gun... and i happen to really like refinishing wood ....so its all right

very nice to talk to them on the phone... he also said that the sauers were of very good quality... so i think that will also be on my list in a couple months
-also.. all the brno's he had ..had good ejectors..

man, I'm excited

Good selection! Something to bear in mind - it would be best to use light loads, preferably 1oz, for hunting needs.....frequent/consistent use of heavier shells such as 1 1/4oz (for example) will unnecessarily place too much stress on that already older stockhead.
 
And you don't need heavy loads for upland hunting. I use as light a loads that I can get away with in all my doubles. I know a gentleman who for the last couple of years has been hunting every feathered spieces of game bird in Northg America. He is doing it all with a 140 year old English damascus barrel hammer gun that was proofed for 1 oz. loads. We took him in the Delta marsh for waterfowl hunting and he had no problem getting birds (when he remembered to #### the hammers).

By the way, congrats on the purchase. Did you get pistol grip or straight English stock? You realize that this probably won't be your last SXS!
 
it won't see heavy use.. maybe 20 birds a season .. for the stuff that likes heavy loads, i've got a couple 870's that will do

went with the pistol grip.. i really eyeballed the straight but just couldn't do it in the end ... went with what i'm familiar with

by stockhead, you mean that the part of the wooden stock closest to the receiver ? this one has a small crack... if it heads south then i'll probably try to replace the stock ( i'll try to find some 1oz loads )

In the larger pic's.. the blue on this piece looked pretty good and thats why i went with it

oh i already feel weak in the knees for another SxS ... it definitely won't be my last :D

Yes, that'd be the part where the stock mates with the receiver. Sidelock shotguns are usually more "sensitive" in that manner due to the type of inletting performed on the stockhead.

Long term view, it would be best to repair that crack and prevent any further creep onward. Replacement is easier said than done although in the past I've seen Numrich Gunparts carry BRNO parts.

Rem/Win/Federal etc 12ga 1oz loads are pretty common and shouldn't be hard to locate.
