Hey guys .. I am more about precision and tactical arms, but have gone outside my element and purchased an older double barrel 12 gauge. I want to chop it off to create a coach gun of sorts.

I am completely unfamiliar with the gun and wondered about a couple things. First of all, the hand guard is removable and has a spring loaded box that appears to be related to the operation of the ejectors. How does this work? Is this also a means of taking barrel off? (take down)

Second .. once hinged and cocked, a small button on the top of the grip slides forward. Is this an auto safety? How does this system work?

Lastly .. I can't seem to get the front trigger to dry fire. The back trigger works fine. Is this the result of not having shells in the gun or simply a problem with the trigger assembly itself?

Any assistance on the operation of this thing would be appreciated!!!

another bit of mystery .. the gun has "made in Hungary" on it, with a small "monte carlo" below that. That is all I can find! Should I look somewhere else on the gun?

SxS

It's a FEG. The Monte Carlo was imported and made for Sears. They are good solid guns --- now of a couple with several 100,000 rounds thru them and their still nice and tight -- the metalurgy & blue are superior-- vastly under rated/under valued. When you remove the "spring loaded box" it converts it from ejector to extractors.
They do indeed have a field safety -- sounds as though you have a problem if the front trigger is not not releasing the fireing pin. By the way never dry fire any shotgun (you may break the fireing pins)!!!!!!! There are only very few that (Ruger for one) that dry fireing will not effect.
They are a great gun and IMHO it would be a shame to chop the bls. Lots of cheap coach gun junk around for CAS or tactical play.
cheers,luck

great .. another stupid purchase. oh well .. hopefully it works when I need it!

Any idea why the front trigger won't pull back? .. What exactly should I be looking for to try and diagnose the problem?

Thanks a ton John! .. again, I went into this blind. I couldn't find a Norinco coach gun, or I would have bought it. This thing is tight .. but as you mentioned, something is up with the trigger. I am NOT great with tools, but is this something I can tackle myself?

If you have a coach gun candidate for me .. I can send you this one on trade!!

is the hammer not releasing at all? the sear could be rusted or very crudded up with dirt or oil.it could also be something is broken or displaced. maybe a trip to your local gunsmith?

This thing is hammerless. I cleaned it and tried to get things lubed up with some Eezox. The stock is a little loose as well .. pretty sure it isn't the original. The trigger pulls back now .. just from looking at it a bit at lunch, it seems that the right side of the action isn't cocking, just the left side. The gunsmith is the place to go .. but unfortunately we don't have one in Lethbridge! I will have to ship it off .. jeez I hate having to do that!

Thanks for all the help gents .. can't really expect any of you to figure this problem out just from what I have explained.

ARE THERE ANY ALBERTA BOYZ THAT ARE WILLING TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS THING FOR ME??

front trigger

A few dry fires shouldn't hurt much. how are you dry firing??

pulling the rear trigger first then the front??? does the auto safety move side to side??? the hammer for the second barrel may need to be reset by the inertia of firing the first round ( like a charles daily / skb 500) pull the trigger then bump the stock on the floor and try the second barrel. If there is side to side movement of the safety it may select which barrel fires first ( I know this does not sound like most sxs with double triggers, but stranger things have happened)

my $0.0204US

it would be very odd to find inertial double triggers. this is a method of resetting sequential or selective single triggers. Doubles should be mechanical and independent.

thanks for all the help guys .. I decided that it's more hassle than it's worth. I hate to be the guy to return things after I said I would take it .. but in this case, I had to.

After a little research, I found that I can have a new one for cheaper than what I paid for the FEG that doesn't work or have the original stock!

thanks again!
