Hi all,
Just trying out my new to me sxs SUHL 12 ga.(very nice gun) and at about 18 "paces through the snow" I was suprised to find the entire pattern above my POA.
When I moved about 30 Paces it seemed to be about 60/40 favoring the top of my POA. Now I wasent paying the best attention as I was not alone but I believe this was what was happening.
Is this pretty standard? Due to bullet drop?
Thanks

Your POI will drop as you get further away from the pattern board.
The shot is only coning out between 1,100 and 1,500FPS generally, so it drops faster than a rifle bullet would.
I don't understand the 18" part however, are you saying you shot at the target when it was only 18" away from you?

I think you need to re-do your test before finalizing any results. First, what does "pace" mean. Are you talking a 3 ft. pace or you talking less. Second, your test to determine point of aim should be done from a rest just as a rifle. This will eliminate any movement/ flinching on your part.

I will redo it properly soon. and record the results. Question: If you fire horizontal say a #8 2 3/4" 1 OZ. shell, how far till it hits the ground?
Well unless someone has actually tested this a various distances (which I doubt) you would have to get out the old slide rule (old school) and be good at math. You would have to figure pellet weight, velocity and powder charge and the knowledge to compute this all together. Then you could have an answer.
