I've got and old 1920's or 30's Italian SxS that won't come apart. I push the button on the forstock but the gun just won't break apart.

Any suggestions?
I'd rather do it myself before I go to a smith

Thanks

Perhaps a few drops of gun oil to adequately loosen up the spring i.e. if the firearm has been left unattended over time.

Quite often when you push the button or move the lever , you have to pull the end of the fore stock away from the barrel. It is usually not real tight but there is some resistance. If that is what you are doing , then it may be frozen with rust or crud and maybe a squirt of penetrating oil through one of those little tube applicators may help . Try not to get the oil on the wood ,it will/may stain it.
