sxs utv or argo

Used Argos for a summer on a seismic crew. Hill and swamp country. Very high maintenance. After a three month summer season they were pretty well trashed. As some have mentioned they are very useful in very few situations.

I've got an old 6x6 argo sitting out back, Brother thinks I should find a salvage zero turn mower and convert the argo to hydraulic - hydrostatic drive :)

might be a cool project.

but yes they ride rough

My brother, a couple years younger than I, spends a lot of days in the bush in the mountains west of Grande Cache, Alberta - the worst "stuck" that he was involved in recovery was person on side-by-side with tracks replacing each wheel on a side hill - unit slid sideways into the "rhubarb" and mostly rolled over onto side but not all the way. Needed other machines to pull and winch - was okay once it was pointed up hill, but alone they were pretty much helpless. "rhubarb" was water running in very smelly mud - slough bottom creek - not gravel bottom - side hill was snow covered.

Pretty sure the 35,000 dollar Argo my wife wanted to buy had a hydrostatic drive unit.
Glad I stopped her from buying it though it would have been one hell of a 10 year anniversary present LOL

the newer ones are nicer machines. The one I have must be from the 70's

it's been sitting tarped for at least 10 years so I suspect its going to need a rebuild.

Looking at videos from Russia... they sure seems to have their fair share on different ATV

that thing must be a pig to steer

and I'm trying to see what sort of springs it has, perhaps some sort of torsion bars. That solid front axle looks like my little Suzuki LJ

Love my little Honda p500! Goes anywhere I need it and it sips fuel. It has a large rear rack that I can put a lockable toolbox (pictured) or a dump bed that I custom made. I also made the front bumper and a front rack that lifts up and down with the winch for loading up deer. It's almost too easy. I paid less than $10000 2years ago for it brand new! The new p520 has a dump box instead of the rack.

His is older than that, but also a P500 IIRC. He's looking at the space below the passenger seat to see if he can make some sort of storage there. Have they already done that on yours?

Barely any storage under the passenger side other then room for the owners manual and ownership/insurance info. However there is a big space under the driver's side and guys have used everything from small plastic garbage cans to ammo boxes. Keep in mind it must be removable as the clutch adjustment, manual shift and oil dipstick/filler are under there as well. Btw, in that photo I have 27" tires on it rather then the stock 24", which I still have and use chains on for plowing.
