Here's my little story, just want a few opinions from those in the know.
I've wanted a nice side by side for quite a while and I finally came
across one on the weekend, and in really nice shape.

It's a Charles Daly model 500 12ga.
the bluing is almost perfect all over, receiver and barrels. There is one wee
spot about 3/16" wide or so half way up the barrels. Looks maybe like
it was leaned up against something for awhile. It locks up nice and tite,
there is no play when the action is broke and both triggers and the safety
function as they should. It has extractors only and is made in Japan.

I haven't paid the fellow for it yet and I'm wondering what a gun like this
would be worth. I really have no idea to even wager a guess.
No tubes of course and both barrels are fully choked.
Thx. in advance guys

Charles Daly / BC Miroku / Kawaguchiya Firearms Co. Ltd. are indeed well built guns. They are also very good value. Extractor guns were the most common but some ejectors do exist. Many were pistol gripped and equipped with beavertail fore ends for the American market, but straight grip / splinter guns were made as well.

Beware of stock length and gun fit, many of these guns were made with a short (14 inch or a little less) length of pull.

As for value, too few are traded to establish a reliable dollar figure. If I have to guess, I would think that (in the condition you describe) something around the $700 mark would be in the ballpark, but that is just one idiots opinion. You will have to decide what the gun is worth to you.

Thx. for the feedback here guys.
I figured I was holding a little more than grandpa's
O'l coach gun. It shoot beautifully! I put 100ish rounds
thru it on the weekend at clays and yes, points very well.
I offered the fellow $200. Sold.

Ditto!

I'll give you $250 . . .

Lol, Thursdays comic relief. Gotta love it.
I'll tell ya tho, I would have bought the gun anyway.
Regardless of it's quality, so-to-speak. I really wanted
a side by side. It just happened to be a bonus that
the crafsmanship is on the upper end of the scale.
I'll let you boys shoot it tho!
Thx. again
