I want a sxs for rabbit or grouse for those tight spots. I am thinking 12 guage Baikal or stoeger. Can't decide, anyone have any suggestions on quality and performance. New or used doesn't matter to me. I am thinking 26" or maybe coach.

I have a number of SxS's and for what you want I wouldn't get either one. First, you don't need a 12 gauge for rabbit or grouse. You will basically be walking so I would want a light subgauge such as a 20. You said it didn't matter if you bought used. I would definately be looking at used as you can get a much better gun quality wise than the guns you are thinking about. Just my opinion.

Of the 2 you mentioned I'd go with the russian. I love my ij58 and with 7/8oz loads its great for bunnies and southern ontario grouse (they fly fast down here). I have around 12000 rounds thu mine and no probs yet

As an example of used. If you want a 12 gauge, right now The Gun Dealer in New Brunswick has an Ithaca 200E (ejector) in 12 gauge listed as very good condition at $599.00. In my opinion, the two guns you mentioned don't even compare to this gun. And if you end up not liking SxS's, the Ithaca will bring more than the others at resale.
Or there is a FEG 12 gauge listed on the EE right now for $395.00. I have a very nice FEG and I can tell you they are a well built gun plus true chopper lump barrels. But if you want to get ino SxS's and want new but only want to spend around $500.00-$600.00, then you are limiting yourself pretty much to the two choices you mentioned. Of those two, I also would pick the Baikal or maybe Yildiz.
But as far as used, there is nothing wrong with buying used SxS's if you know what to look for. Of mine, only one I bought new. In fact, for me, the older the better.

Used SxS shotguns

Check out Trade-Ex Canada for some really great buys in shotguns. They are good to deal with and are quite accurate and maybe even a bit conservative in their descriptions of their firearms. You seem to get a much better gun than you expect from them.

From them, I have bought a FEG and a BRNO, both with ejectors, in excellent condition, for about half of what you might expect to pay.

They are one of the advertising dealers here, and there is a link to their website above in the dealers sponsors. T E C Trade Ex Canada

Yes, tradeex is a great outfit to deal with. I have 3 of the Brno shotguns, one I bought from them and as mentioned, it was better than described. The Brnos are well built shotguns, they are a true sidelock gun, they have chopper lump barrels and hidden third fastner. Tradeex has a fairly nice 12 gauge with straight English stock on there for I think $350.00. They also have others with the pistol grip stock. I find them to be a great handling gun. They are greatly undervalued in my opinion.

I have stroger uplander my father has Baikal S&S both are in 20g.

Both are strongly made shotguns
Finish is good on both
Stroger was smooth openning and closing right out of the box
Baikal needed about 200 rounds to brake in to be smooth
Baikal sells for $440.00 from Gagon Sports
Stroger uplander supreme about $600.00, I got mine with sctach stock for $400
Baikal has chrome lined barrel stroger is not
Balance Baikal wins by wide margine, stroger is front heavy
Baikal balance realy well.
Stroger is utility looking
Baikal has nice wood profiling

My choice would go with Baikal

I just picked up a Brno from Tradex. It is a well built and very nice handling gun. I paid $350 for it. In my opinion it is much better than spending $600 on a new bottom of the line SxS. It is not new and has handling marks but the fit and finish and design is far superior to the two choices in the OP.

Did you get the English stock one they had or one with a pistol grip? To buy a new gun made like the Brno today would probably cost in the area of $2500.00-$3000.00.
