If one is good and two is better... three must be pretty good, right?

Stumbled upon this and this

As a promotion for his single trigger, Robertson engineered among the most important shotguns to emerge from the Boss & Co. London workshop in the company’s 205-year history: the triple-barrel SxSxS that incorporated a single trigger. Although a marvel of ingenuity, the shotgun actually reveals the lengths that Robertson went in order to demonstrate the feasibility and safety of the single trigger to a skeptical marketplace.

"Weighing a mere 6 pounds, 14 ounces, I can tell you that when shouldered and presented it feels like a magic wand in ones’ hands; as light and maneuverable as any small-bore, side-by-side game gun.

Of the gun’s total weight, the 28-inch steel barrels are amazingly light at 3 pounds, 7 ounces. The three barrels combined are barely wider than a standard 12-bore side by side."

That is incredible.

3 lbs 7 oz is approximately the weight of the 31.5 inch barrels on my 9 lb sporting clays over and under so to be 2 point something pounds lighter I'd think it to be barrel heavy in balance. That's certainly light for 3 barrels but they certainly don't look "barely wider" than a standard 12-bore side by side.

Agree. It’s mathematically impossible to be “barely wider” then a standard 12-bore. Unless by saying “barely wider” they mean the width of an additional 16-bore barrel….

The bore difference between a standard 12 and 16 bore is about 1.6mm

Exactly, there is no way to physically fit three 12 gauge barrels side by side to be barely wider than two 12 gauge barrels.

To be fair, I think Grouse Man was alluding to the fact there is probably not a sliver of excess metal anywhere on those barrels, compared to the considerable stoutness of some 12-gauge barrels. What a gorgeous gun, even if the proportions seem odd at first. I think I could get used to it!

Here's a 12x12-over-20 by Abesser&Merkel.
This one was in an auction here in Ontario a few years ago.
It was an obscure auction, with only a couple guns, and I thought maybe I'd get away with it.
But I tapped out around ~2000-2500 and it went for over 10k.
It would have been a fun one.
