Thats exactly why ive stopped buying hoppes lubricating oil. Still use their solvent but I may drop that too, in favour of frog lube. Lucas gun oil is good stuff. Doesnt evaporate away or cook off within a couple rounds like hoppes does.

Perhaps just use the lighter oil for parts that don't heat up..

I was using Rem oil in my Windham AR after a couple hundred at the range the bolt gets dry I have to spray more rem oil on the bolt.When I took it apart and cleaned it I put Amsoil 0-40 on the bolt same oil as in my Ronda Rincon never had a problem since.
Perhaps yes. But I'd rather have fewer bottles in my cleaning kit just to keep things tidy. On a side note, now that I have an m305, I have been reading up on using grease to lubricate firearms. Apparently this is a recommended route for the k31 as well.
I remember being on the job with the tanker and the tar pump ran out of oil. We had none left to fill it.
We used old French Fry oil. The pump ran fine.

Only issue I found with using engine oil, is its not good for damp, in the rain and wet areas. Because once its get in contact with water, turns milky.
Just buy a gallon of sewing machine oil when one of the remaining Canadian needle-trade operators closes up shop and goes off-shore like its brethren.

That oil is full of contaminants, from carbon, acids, metals, silica, you name it. I wouldn’t reccomend using used oil of any kind. There’s places to save money, I wouldn’t consider that a very good place.

Perhaps getting a bucket of sand and putting some used oil in there for shovels etc the rest to the recycler
Normally I would suggest ANY oil is better than NO OIL ... HOWEVER ... years ago took friends of mine from Ohio up moose hunting in Northern Saskatchewan ... it was COLD ... like REALLY REALLY COLD. First day out one of them had a close in shot of a MONSTER BULL ... he pulled trigger ... nothing happened .. he was devastated... claimed his rifle was always "well oiled and greased". I took the rifle (bolt action) and hosed all the action (specifically the bolt/firing pin) with gasoline from the slip tank in the 1/2 ton to remove ALL THE WELL INTENTIONED gun oil/grease that had totally solidified the firing pin within the bolt. The next day my local Canuck hunting buddies got a bull, cow and yearling calf between us ... my Win 88 .308 performed PERFECTLY despite the -30 conditions because all the Canucks were using well polished and NON oiled/greased guns.
Synthetic motor oil here. It was made to last under more severe conditions than your firearm will ever see. Creeps into small spaces, clings molecularely to metal, rust preventative, anti-gumming, and readily available everywhere.
The base feed stock is of a higher quality than most gun oils, especially those mineral or vegetable based.
