My old 300wm, a early 1990s Winchester synthetic was a stiff stock and shoot good and felt ok when handling it. After glass bedding was not a half bad 1000yd shooter.
I've had a mid 2000s Ruger 300wsw I picked up cheep about 10 years back as a project but other the cutting the barrel to 19" and a inch off the stock, I've done nothing to it. Not what I'd call a great shooter but nothing I'd lost sleep over. The stock always felt soft in the forend, flexed more than I liked, kinda like a wimpy hand shake. With extra time now I decided to bed it, I did the action and up to 2" or so in front of the lug. What a difference when I picked it up, felt like real gun hardly any flex. So the debate should I bed and float the rest of it. I'm not really concerned about the extra ounces of weight. Any input or experience? I've got time, unfortunately I'm not able to go out and try it as is before doing more. ??
