thompson center

N.E.F

H&R

ive shot the t/c in 204 ruger nice rifle but i am interested to see how they all stock up

your comparing apples to oranges... they are all not even comparable. The t/c is in a totally different market than the other 2 mentioned. How much do you want to spend? Do you anticipate buying, or is one of your favorite calibers a wildcat or obscure cartridge? If you just want a truck gun, buy the cheaper ones. If you want a rifle that will let you put almost any caliber on it, buy quality and go t/c. It really depends on you, your hunting style, and what you need it for.:)

1. TC Encore: pro: Generally reported to be good.

con: More expensive than the N.E.F. and H&R.

2. N.E.F./H&R pro: They are significantly cheaper than the TC Encore.

con: You can't get use the barrel accessory program - it is only available in the U.S. You have to send in the receiver and they hand-fit the new barrel, they won't just ship out a barrel. So you'll have to buy a whole gun in Canada to get another calibre or somehow get your receiver across the border and send it in from a U.S. address and then get it back to Canada and possibly have to explain everything to Customs and other border authorities why the gun you are bringing back isn't the same as the one you took out.

Ive thinking about a new Pro Hunter...upgrade from a Traditions I bought many years ago, it still works fine but just feel the need to get somthing new!

So what my question is, is are the Pro Hunter and Encore barrels interchangable? I would want to go between BP and and probley .280 rem.

Ive asked this question in several gunshops and seem to get blank stares as a reply.

I can not say with 100% certainy so please confirm this, but I think the Encore and the Pro Hunter barrels are interchangeable. The only difference between the two firearms is the stock set, speed breech on the muzzle loader, and the ram rod also on the muzzle loader.

I recently bought a Pro Hunter 50 cal. muzzle loader and I really like the way it handles and shoots. I haven't found the perfect load for it yet, but it has taken a deer already so I can't be too far away from what it really likes.

TC is by far superior (fit, finish, versatility), that being said, a HR / NEF with a .308 barrel will do anything a TC with a 308 barrell can. It's all about a comfortable price range, and whether you are hung up on brand names & trends.

I have had both NEF and H&R. There is a big difference in fit and finish between H&R and NEF. The H&R being the better. The action on an H&R is also alot tighter. My H&R was in .450 Marlin. After 350 plus rounds through it it was still as tight as the day i bought it. Th one distinct advantage H&R and NEF have over the T/C is that they both have positive ejection. They will throw both empty and loaded cases of any size over your shoulder. Handy if a second shot is called for in a hurry. As far as accuracy they both shot between 1 and 1.5 groups at 100 yds. Now the downs side.................I never had any luck with reloaded ammo out of the NEF. I suspect that was because it was a tapered cartridge or that the finish in the chamber was not polished. Not sure. But i know a guy who has an H&R in the same caliber (25-06) and never had an ejection problem.
