T/C Encore problem

I have a Thompson/Centre Encore in .308. I have only shot factory Winchester and Federal ammunition through it.

Recently, I have found it to be very inconsistent. I have been shooting off sandbags at 100 yards, with no real groups. It has been in the 10" range at 100 yards.

I use the .223 barrel with no problems at all.

Anyone else with similar problems? Please PM any suggestions.
 
I suspect socket bolt located under the grip is loose, try and move the gun back and forth if you feel play side to side then take the plastic cover off and tighten that sucker up. This gave me grief too.

FYI - The torque on the bolts on the forearm will also effect accuracy so play with those as well. Its best to use a torque wrench if you repeatedly change barrels out. Record the torque so you can repeat your magic torque when changing back.

I can see the logic of this but how much torque?
 
Are you using the same forearm for both barrels, or different?

If different, maybe the .308 forearm is rubbing on the frame or barrel.
I had to remove alot of plastic from mine to clear my frame.

Hinge pin slop could also be the problem.

I'd start with thread lock on the bases, re-tighten everything...and try again.
 
I would look into the scope as well. I almost had the same problem. Never thought my leupold vx111 would be the problem.
 
try a different scope or something simple like your base is loose.

other theory is, did you change bullet weights or is the gun shooting the same regardless of what you are feeding it?
 
Ive had issues with mine but have managed to get some groups under 1.5inch, could be better... Important to take your barrel off and head down to your local gun store and try different ammo. If your barrel closes nice and tight , your casing should sit .001" below the end of the barrel. This saves you from buying box after box of good ammo, .001" clearance between bullet casing and firing bushing is ideal and up to .003" is ok too. Oh ya...mine doesnt like a clean barrel, never count the first shot and dont forget to let the barrel cool down between shots. Good luck.
 
I have actually fired mine without the fore end on it at all. I wanted to see if it was the problem. Without it on there I eliminated that variable. Shot way better after that, then started with the sandpaper.

You can actually balance it pretty good resting it off of the frame without the fore end on.

I'd also have a look at the scope. Good luck.
