I brought home my new T/C Icon .308 today and look forward to doing a 15 shot break-in tomorrow. I'm impressed. The wood is among the best I have ever had with any rifle. Free floated, match grade, blued barrel has a 0.65" muzzle diameter so it should be capable of some repeat shot acurracy. The chamber seems very tight and the bolt has no movement when it is locked up empty. Bolt has a large diameter and moves with about the same feel as a Tikka with little "wobble" when fully retracted. Action is bedded to a CNC machined aluminum bedding block with three recoil lugs. Polymer clip is a single "stack" which feeds flawlessly. 100 yd. three shot factory "acoustical" (whats that) group measures 0.67" with 150 gr Federal bullets. The trigger has a bit of creep but breaks clean. It is fully adjustable so I should be able to "fix" the creep. I am not a big fan of the bolt handle as it does not have a round knob.
You are going to have to line up to buy this one! I expect to play with it for 2-3 months and then sell (my usual practice).

Sorry about not being able to post pics, but this new fangled technology is too much for some of us .... I can get the pics to my desktop so I can send in an e-mail but that's about it. Oh, did I say I was on dail-up ... a pic takes about 20 minutes!!!!
I decided to go with the .308 instead of the 30TC. Can't go wrong with the accuracy of the '08.

Spent several hours yesterday and did the shoot and clean break-in! Started load development today and can report this rifle is going to be a shooter. Five 3 shot groups today @ 100M gave me an average of 0.56" C to C with the best group 0.33" and the worst at 0.80".
I have an offer to post a pic for me ... hope to show off the wood soon!
 
I am going to apologize for not spending time on the T/C ... but, the Cooper I've waited so long for arrived just a week after I picked up the T/C. So, the range report on the T/C will have to wait it's turn. I can tell you that the few times I used the T/C it got top marks! Not only does it look great and have excellent metal to wood fit, it has good balance and feels comfortable off-hand. Based on the few groups I have shot, I have good reason to believe it is going to give me lots of 1/2MOA performance with little tuning.
The only negative I've seen in the T/C is that it is hard to load through the port, and must be loaded through the clip.
 
Ah, well then, if your not using it, I'll be glad to take it off your hands and save me ordering one from SIR ;) Thanks for the info though, nice to see one in the hands of someone other than a gun magazine that has a T/C ad following the review. I appreciate a good honest, Canadian opinion.
 
You'll have to, .30 TC isn't approved for sale yet (The ammo) in Canada, and from what I've read Hornady uses some fancy proprietary powder with something like up to 15% Nitroglycerin, not available to handloaders, so the benefit you gain from using factory .30 TC (30.06 punch in a short cartridge) is MOOT. I'll be sticking with .308 myself, just thought I'd pass along what I've read. Here's hoping a larger chambering is in the works to!
 
Had a chance to start some load development on the Icon and getting some decent results. Not too much of anything shoots (3 shot) groups that exceed 0.75" @ 100M. With a 3 group set.... without cooling (outside temp is about 0)... it is common to get two groups between 0.5 and 0.6" and one group under 0.5". Usually the first (cold group) is the best ... and will fit under a dime.
The trigger has lost it's creep and is crisp but I can't get it under 3lbs. The only criticism I have of this rifle is that it must be loaded through the clip which is a pain when shooting off the bench.
It has a short throat which is great for handloading because pretty well any "hunting" bullet can be seated close to the lands and still fit in the clip.
 
Nice rifle!! I think the Icon will be a real hit and would like to try one on a whitetail hunt.
With Sako making those fugly Model 85's the Icon and the Kimber rifles are pretty much on top of the field for higher end factory hunting rigs :)

You won't have to wait to long for the Long action. T/C had one down at the Snipershide shoot last weekend and I personally know a gun magazine writer that had one up hunting in Alaska. I have also shot his in 30TC. The bolt handles are terrible but he has assured me that they are changing that for future production.
