T/C Prohunter

My neighbor has one and likes it, he has several barrels for it including black powder. I haven`t shot it but tried the trigger, usual heavier than need be from factory. Not bad in all, sorry i couldn`t be more help but i`m sure an owner will chime in.

I have handled a few, and they are quite nice and handy. I hear that the hinge bolt needs replacing so the barrel fit is tighter. And, when I went to a couple of gun stores, I used my trigger guage, and the lightest one I handled measured 6 pounds in pull. Not exactly light for a hunting rifle, but I'm sure it is "fixable".
I'd rather have an adjustable trigger myself, but the barrel switch option is neat.

If you want to read up on the T/C Encores/Prohunters/Contenders one of the best sites is Mike Bellm's it is loaded with info.

Ive got an ENCORE...basically just a shorter barreled model. Ive got a bunch of different barrels for it. Easy to change barrels. Triggers not bad and seems to get better with time. Very light and easy to handle in the bush. Extermly accurate. Hindge bolt is tight and shows no signs of wear altho I know there is an after market hindge avaiable for it. Barrels generally seem to be readily avaiable or can be ordered, but they do seem to be getting expensive.

Get the Bellm trigger spring and you get a crisp 2.5 to 3 pounds. About ideal for a hunting rifle. My .223 groups under MOA without oversized pins or other schenanigans.

so the trigger isnt adjustable. ? Are there any gunsmiths on board that can adjust trigger say down to 3 lbs !!

Bellm trigger kit, he has a step by step instruction online, fairly easy to do.
I installed 3 so far and have had zero complaints. Different weight settings (spirings) are available.
The barrels are accurate as well, wel atleast from my end of the trigger. I wish they made one in 6.5 Swede :(
I would suggest you buy an aftermarket hinge pin to secure bbl to frame

Hello friend!
for my needs i bought a 300 win mag, pro hunter , stainless, 28 inches barrel
and looking to add other barrels , 12 gauge and 20 gauge.
The gun is good, safe and won't rust.
smith and wesson have created thompson with the best combo.
don't forget that precision goes with reloading and testing
or buying an $$$$ one. good shooting

S&W did'nt create TC, but I think I get your point ;)
TC IMO, make some of the best finely crafted firearms in N.A. ever!!
You won't be disapointed

Rabi020- Are you looking for a smooth or rifled shotgun bbl?

I currently have my .223 barrel on mine. Very accurate, the trigger is a bit heavy.

I've been meaning to put the trigger kit in.

Sorry to hijack but I just bought my father a prohunter in 300wm and Ive been told about a hammer kit but it's the first I heard of the hinge pin and a s**t trigger! I guess I'll try her when it arrives

I own 2 actions and 4 barrels and this is a load of ####. Mike Bellm, if you read his site had a falling out with TC don't know what exactly but it has caused him to talk a lot of #### about TC. I suspect he wanted to be paid to promote their products and when he refused he started talking sit in revenge

The triggers need polishing and if you replace the springs with Mike Bellm springs they will help reduce trigger pull as well. The bellm heavy duty hammer spring and locking spring are stiffer and provide a more positive operation. I dont use the "oversize" hinge pin, I left the link in a prvious post.
Did all this improve my Encore...Yes. Do all the Encores need these? Who knows? Thats up to the operator's knowledge & experience.

I own a prohunter in 7mm Rem Mag and have a extra barrel in 300 Win Mag. Both will shoot 1/2" groups at 100yds with reloads. I worked the trigger pull down to 2 1/2lbs without any problems.
Great rifle to own.
