T3 Aluminum Bolt Shroud

Do you have to be a dealer if you don't make a profit? Just break even...:)

Sure to be a popular idea, and I would if I could figure out how to make a buck at it ;)

I hadn't considered how the lines of those previous rear profiles would line up with the back of the action. I did a lot of tinkering and finally decided that the stock profile on the back is the best way to go about it. I always thought it looked a bit like a skinny chicks elbow, but it's a lot easier to criticize a designer before you walk in his shoes.

Anywho, we all know what it looks like, but here's the model:

If you have access to a lathe/mill, whip up a prototype and tweak it to get it just right. Remember, your reverse engineered sample size was QTY 1, and if it happened to be on one end or the other of the acceptable tolerance and you machine one at the same end of the tolerance scale you could have fit issues.

If the cost (and risk) of "tooling" up to mass produce these was too high for you to bear, perhaps you could get in touch with one of teh already established vendors on this site who make parts...I'm sure you could make a deal, or, failing that, make the native solid edge *.prt available, or an IGES ??? Just some random thoughts.

A good point, and one that I've considered. I'm optimistic about fitment issues because in measuring both the bolt and shroud, one finds that the clearances are fairly generous, and that many of the bolt dimensions just happen to be exactly "even" numbers. IOW, I'm speculating that the tolerances, on the bolt at least, are rather tight.

I am planning on making one to fit my rifle first anyhow.

Well, as you know, things can get busy over the holidays. I managed to find time to make one of the fixtures, and then ran into some technical difficulty with the <expletive> mill. But I haven't lost interest. Still working away at it. The tools I need to fix the mill should be here tomorrow, and I'll be able to put in a solid shift of repair & troubleshooting on Friday.

Also discovered that a buddy's dad has a 695, so I've got another specimen to check my work against.

If there's anyone else in Calgary that's interested in helping out by letting me take a mic to your T3, 695, or 595, shoot me a PM. I'd like to figure out what the limits of size are for a few key dimensions.
