If you have any suggestions I'll keep an open mind, but I don't currently see any reason to deviate from the ubiquitous 6061.

What calibers are your particular concern? I shoot .270 so this is an issue I have run into, but there's just not enough meat to work with to improve the situation for a long action cartridge.

It might be possible to lengthen the magwell to accept a different magazine... :cool:
 
I`m shooting a 204 ruger, problem is inside of mag is limiting oal round lenght. Bolt clears back of mag by a good 3/8 in. so lots of room if a guy can get bottom off the mag and remove a little material. Nobody is ever happy with what you have, always tinkering. As far as the bolt i don`t have a problem with the factory one. What are the other guys looking at?
 
^ I also like the factory bolt knob, but there seems to be some folks who want an aftermarket oversized knob, I personally have no need for it. My T3 is a hunting rifle, I need it to be light, strong, MOA accurate, and reliable. no more... If I need to paddle upstream with it, I will, no hesitation.

I personally would not try to rework the mag to accept a longer OAL round. If guys really need to have the bullets that close to the lands, then they should be single feeding anyhow. No need to be 10 thou's off on a hunting rig IMHO. A nice lightweight and STRONG bottom metal that accepts factory mags is all thats really needed. If you can reproduce the factory mag out of aluminum at a good price, they might sell, they might not... wouldn't be a huge improvement from the factory plastic mags me thinks, I've seen a demonstration were a sale's rep was jumping up and down on a mag to show how strong it was. It didn't break. Also messing with a new mag configuration could lead to feeding issues.

I got my shroud a while back, AWESOME and then some!!:D...showed it to my Buddy..:rolleyes:.NIOWWW...his is in the mail...:)..annd me, never ever satisified.....:rolleyes:now I got this friggen notion that I really..REALLY want a 6.5x55 Tikka Stainless Laminate..:rolleyes:.soooo looks like EVEN MORE precision aftermarket stuff from Flick:D...

The shroud is the plastic part on the rear of the bolt. Kind of flimsy, flick has made a replacement out of aluminum. Looks as good or better than factory and much stronger. If you go back to the original thread in this section there are pictures and puchase info. Takes about 10 seconds to install. Probably just as easy to send flick a pm and talk to the man who makes em.

Maybe my 204 T3 lite is different from other Tikka's but I can not single feed my rifle, it has to be mag fed. Well I can single feed, but it is not easy to get the bold to grab or whatever it does. Not like my rem.

I think all the Tikka mags are the same and just have different spacers in the back, why not just try and take that spacer out and shave a 1/16 off it or whatever?
 
I just got a T3 Hunter - I'd be all for swapping out the plastic bottom "metal" if there was something local to source.
