T3 clip OAL modifications

Thread on 24h has a nice write up on modifying it if you are interested.

Tikkas are notorious for having a short magazine and a long throat. If you try to size the OAL of your round so that the bullet sits just of the lands on a Tikka, you will almost certainly be much longer than factory ammunition OAL, which will also mean that your rounds will be too long for the magazine.

This is IMHO the ONLY problem with a factory Varmint Tikka, they are very very accurate right out of the box.........

Why Sako doesn't fixthis - god only knows:confused:

I was in contact with Sako about this problem last week. Their stand is that the mags are built to SAAMI spec for the cartridge OAL. Whynot just use the magazine for the 22-250/243/308?

CLIPs

I use a TIKKA 308 clip in my TIKKA 22-250 and it works great !
Unfortunately, there is no substitution for a 223 calibre.
The 223 cartridge falls out of the 22-250 clip.
To my knowledge there is no way to adjust the plastic lips.

Ahhh...........never thought of that part d'oh. Here I thought there might be an easy fix.

The 223 Tikkas I had never needed to be loaded any longer than the mag to shoot real well, but I never tried anything really heavy either. I have seen the mod somewhere it didn't look to difficult..

I would rather be a smartass than a dumbass so here it is

A magazine is an ammunition storage and feeding device within or attached to a repeating firearm. Magazines may be integral to the firearm (fixed) or removable (detachable). The magazine functions by moving the cartridges stored in the magazine into a position where they may be loaded into the chamber by the action of the firearm. The detachable magazine is often controversially referred to as a clip.

A clip is a device that is used to store multiple rounds of ammunition together as a unit, ready for insertion into the magazine or cylinder of a firearm.

I'm keen to argue:)

Kind of like you use in a Garand, hey? :owned:

I've modded mine, I cut out the plastic division that forms the back of the magazine, trimmed the top back then dammed it up stood it on its end and made a new back "wall" by filling with fibreglass resin. I then lengthened the follower with epoxy putty to suit, but I found after some hours "tinkering" that the trick to making the whole thing work flawlessly is to relocate the spring center underneath the lengthened follower otherwise the follwer will tend to try to keep the nose end of the round up too severly. It now cycles 80 grain Amaxs set to my guns OAL without fail.

Reading that back it seems like gibberish so I'll try and post some pics later to explain.

I did the same mod and it feeds perfectly. Here's my pictures.

i doubt you will get an argument. not sure what the question is, but my .223 handles everything grain wise. I think it was designed to be used in other heavier calibres ie/ 0.243 as well, if i recall the packaging.
