Here it is,

First day out with the Tikka T3 Sporter I picked up from the EE. Went out with Caustic, a fellow CGNer

Its funny, I was really pissed off when I first bought the T3 Sporter because there were no good write ups, or reviews or range reports. I always vowed that I would change all that! . . . then I proceeded to leave my camera at home, and not record the strict details.... get into my usual, shoot, turn knobs, shoot,ect..... But here we go anyways

I know that you guys will bust my balls for doing 3 shot groups, Look, ammo is expensive. I am an full time uni with a part time job, and snagging ammo from the Queen is against the rules! lol ... I spent $125 on 60 match bullets, i borrowed some cheap stuff from my brother and figured that once I saw what the gun could do I would go to larger groups. So cut me a little slack.

Tikka T3 Sporter .308

1. Bore Zeroed at home

1.5. Shooting Position was Prone Supported (sandbag under forestock and squishy sandbag under butstock. This is not my ideal shooting position. I shoot a high prone, this was a very low prone. I was uncomfortable throughout the day. I dont like bench rest, and I had cut the tab off my Harris because I never thought it would leave my C7.

2. Started out at 50m and walked onto a rough zero. Settled with 1'' low
(shooting .308 Winchester FC Hunting round, no clue what grain, lead tips on the end, I did not feeling like wasting match at 50m)

3. Out to 100m, Stuck with the Hunting Ammo, first 3 round group shot 12/16'' = .75 MOA. Shruged shoulders, said sweet, Caustic said "I'll take that group"

4. Moved right out to 200m (as far as Selkirk Game and Fish goes out) Threw in Hornady 308 Win 168 gr A-MAX

5. First 3 round Group shot 10/16'' = .625"" at 200 which I half to get .3125 MOA ... I was quite happy, like smile, nod, happy, So thats sub half MOA, I was super happy,

6. I moved to Winchester 308 168gr HPBT Match, I shot a 1 MOA@200 group, then two 5 round 1.5 MOA@200 groups. At this point the low prone was really starting to bug my shoulder.

My brother then proceeded to shoot one of my targets with Caustic's 300WM.... and I forget to grab the other target as I got distracted by a CZ858 that showed up and was giving free demos.. (i know I have ADHD and do terrible reviews)

7. I put the match away and went back to shooting the hunting Win FC. Hit a 6'' plate from the squatting position (felt nice) shot some steel, 100% hits, Caustic put up a reactive target and was getting ready to shoot it, I waited from him to start his breathing cycle and then I blew it 25 feet away... had a good laugh.

All in all put about 60rnds through it, felt really good about my shooting, I am looking forward to getting my target sling and arm cuff in, and moving away from prone supported, then we will see how well I do.

So apologies for the terrible range report, but end of the day, this rifle out of the box was shooting half MOA no prob. 1/2 MOA with a little work and with a better shooter behind the gun, who knows.

Tikka T3 Sporter gets an A++ from me. The stock is worth every penny, and shot just beautifully.

Tikka's shoot for sure. I am looking to get the T3 Sporter in .260 Rem if I can find one. You will definitely not be dissapointed with yours.

TIKKA T3 Sporter

Sounds like you're very pleased with your rifle.
Your declared accuracy is very good !

I have same rifle in 223 calibre 1:8 and just love it.
This is my first T3 since I've always owned 595 Master Sporter's
The TIGER stock is "pretty" and the "body fit" at the shooting bench is A+

I have the double set trigger and love it.
No trigger adjustment required -as recieved from the factory.

I'm shooting the 53Vmax and havn't developed a pet load todate.
Thus far, I would rate the shooting accuracy comparable to that of a custom rifle. That's a FARRELL rail with NF rings and NXS 8-32 DD reticle
I've ordered and waiting for the CDI bottom metal and larger body magazine to accomodate heavier lead.

Hornady tap will give tou the same results as match in that rifle. The 223 loves it too. Amazing rifles, nice write up, enjoyed reading a ....real life write up.... Distractions and all... Had a good chuckle. Thanks

yep definitely a nice to shoot rifle, that two stage trigger is great...I mean you only have to blow on it and it will fire, I'm sure you'll be able to obtain even tighter groups if you sort out the sand bag/ rear bag thing. Hopefully once you transition to the slings you can produce these nice groups as well. It was a good day for shooting!!.

I have yet to post results of my outings. The reality is that it shoots so damn well, I find less incentive to post results or even take photos of the groups. Its almost like if the rifle shoots poorly to ok... I'm the first to post photos the "good" groups. Overall, my T3 in 308 is simply my best shooting rifle. I recently shot it side-by-side a TRG. The results were inconclusive, meaning, I couldn't determine what shot better, but the T3 posted the best 100 metre 5-shot grouping at .43!! and the TRG had the best 200 metre 3-shot grouping at .83. Both were shooting run of the mill commerical ammo, but prefer the 165 to 180 grain heavies the best. I have to say, the T3 is the best looking rifle out there, but perhaps I'm biased. :)
BTW, the only upgrades are a nice ($$$) Cortac solutions muzzle brake and a rail adaptor to fit Harris bipods. It sports a Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24x50 (mil-dot), Leupold PRW 30mm steel rings, and Burris Xtreme tactical weaver steel bases. This combination works well for me ;)

I had a T3 in 308 and it shot well, but not as well as your 200m work. You are obviously doing a great job of shooting it. I found with the T3 lite, there was a slight tendency to shift point of aim as it warmed up, but we're talking like 0.5moa. I'd either have the first two shots nick each other or go through the same hole, and the third would fail to cut into the same group, but that might just be me. Sweet looking stock.

I'm still waiting on a base and rings but I can't wait to get mine out to the range. For some reason mine had no threads for a muzzle break. It it did come with a set trigger and 2 mags ...

I'm already a huge fan of how adjustable the stock is. The accessory rail also works with my MPOD. Tic toc tic toc common Canada Post!!

It is te 23 and 3/4 I'm pretty sure, ordered from Epps
My bad... according to Tikka's technical specifications:

20”, (510 mm), MUZZLE THREAD INCLUDED
24”, (600 mm), MUZZLE THREAD IS OPTIONAL

SINGLE SET TRIGGER MECHANISM IS OPTIONAL

Either way, a muzzle brake is not that necessary for 308 Win, though I did notice an improvement in felt recoil and muzzle rise, but I probably gave the poor buggers next to me hearing issues! :)

Here's all the technical specifications for the T3 Sporter...

http://www.tikka.fi/pdf/specs/T3_Sporter.pdf

BTW, I would certainly fancy one in 222 !!

The configurations seem to be all over the map. The Sporter I found in 6.5x55 has the 24"barrel, threaded, and the set trigger. Probably one of very few that made it in the country with those features.

I have the 24" barrel 308 Win, threaded, and the set trigger.

I'm thinking that if a 222 Win comes my way, it's coming home! :)

Still have not got a muzzle break, I want the benefits, but I dont like the look, as well I think it a party foul on a full range line...

ahhhh, if only suppressors.... if only
