T3x 308 Muzzle Break, Yes or No?

My Corlane built Sako 75 in 7-300 Win changes POI 6 MOA when I hang a can on it. The same rifle when it was still a 300 RUM didn't care if the brake was on or not but I sure did. A shot without hearing protection would have you reeling in agony. The radial brake would kick up so much debris that you could add blind to deaf. Shooting it prone was dangerous, not just annoying.

Just the added weight of the brake has the potential to change barrel harmonics for the better or worse, like a barrel tuner. So adding or removing it might makes things better or worse at no fault of the brake itself. I put one on my M14 and 4 / 5 shots were far better than the gun has ever shot. Pure luck, and likely unrelated to the action of it as a brake.

Honestly it all depends what you want. I try to have all my barrels threaded. I wrecked both my shoulders playing hockeys a number of years ago and even shooting can aggravate it pretty bad if I’m not careful. I’m fairly particular about the brakes I use because some direct the blast more towards the rear while others try to be a little more 90 degrees. This involves looking at the designs and testing them out.

Also as others have said when at the range be mindful. I always sit at the bench furthest away and setup some stuff to block the blast if I can cause it does help stop others from getting agitated at you.

If I am hunting I do my best to remove them and adjust the scope accordingly, I do take hearing protection at all times because I don’t want to be deaf like people in my family who never bother to use hearing protection in any situations not just hunting.

I have one of my .308 currently Along with my 6.5 PRC and 338 RCM. (Later are both Tikkas) the only barrel I currently shoot in braked is a 6.5x55 Swede varmint barrel tikka. We will see what I do with my next barrels but I can tell you they will be threaded. (The Swede will get threads in the next few months when I have time to take it to a gunsmith).

I personally don't bother with my T3x. It is good as is, and heavy enough to shoot straight without any muzzle devices.

I bought a T3x lite and no brake this week just to shoot it and not have an issue. It's only 12oz lighter then my current 308. Are you guys a bunch of fuddy duddies? Do you only shoot prone?

I like a slightly heavier rifle in that chambering or bigger. Depends how much you feel like you're giving up but I can definitely notice it when shooting. Don't like not performing quite as well as I know I can.

How good are you with it, anyway? What would you say is a shot you can 100% make? Where's that stop?

It's all personal preference. These are just my opinions:

1) The recoil of a 308win is pretty mild
2) Your ears (and everyone else's ears around you) will thank you for not putting a brake on it
3) The big kids might laugh at you at the range (just a joke - sorry, I couldn't resist)

That said, if you're punching paper, the reduced recoil can benefit accuracy, and
if it makes shooting it more comfortable and enjoyable for you, what could be more important than that?

Depends on how far you wanna shoot. If you're doing the prone precision thing it can help with spotting impacts/effect on target if you have no one to spot for you. Also doubles as a crown protector I guess. If you're just using it as a stand gun or mostly shooting offhand just invest in a limbsaver, as Tikka factory pads are like puck rubber.
