T97 $30 Flat Top Rail. (Didn't like the T97FTU, nor the Carry Handle Rail, so...)

My progress so far..

Neet to touch up/file some edges and use some black touch up paint... so im about 80% there.

I'm going to make a custom reciprocating charging handle... something similar to BC Tactical. Until then I've got a bolt nut and brass sleeve set up...crude but it'll do for now

Bolt nut and brass sleeve?

I just ordered my T97 today should get it next week! Going to order the 12" rail now too. I found two on amazon: one was .31" thick for 10$. The other is .48" thick for 21$. Which thickness did you guys use?

If I put it together and don't mess it up, ill show you.. its VERY crude right now... so might be a while...

I had the same pondering... I used the .48" tho. If I push down on hard, it'll flex a tiny bit... so I cant imagine the .31".... Spend the extra $11 :)

So I put a bunch of rounds through mine over the weekend and it seems when the barrel gets hot my shot pattern starts to climb up the paper, my suspicion is the bar being attached to the sight posts and not being affected by the barrel heat is causing the barrel to bend upwards as it heats up and expands? Anyone notice this?

Wouldnt this happen with the T97.ca FTU aswell?

Thx t_102 for the input.

I used an AIM 0.64" thick rail in 12" which I found very rigid. Like the OP, you have to be very miticulous and patient as in using hand tools with almost a custom fit. It is 95% complete with some painting and some filing to be finished. I used some leftover roll pins, both in 5/32 but the rear is 1" long.

Still to do, is making the front sight more like an open AK style and I already have the Sks target front post installed.

I am not looking for the full co-witness with is but rather the 1/3 with a red dot. So sizes may differ on this rail as mine will likely be a bit off than the OP's.

Has anyone tried butchering a magwedge or wartak sks rail for this project assuming they are close to 12"?

overall length of our rails are just over 11.5" and that includes about an inch of non picatinny (not sure if thats long enough, just looked at the OP in thread)

I do have some lengths of warranty rail available if folks don't want to pay full pop to experiment with a brand new rail

Thx Magwedge.

You need 12" for sure for some extra material needed and beside, with the the Gen 2 T97 coming up, all of this will become obsolete somewhat.
