T97 And 3 Gun

I've ran a search on the forums and returned little to no results. I was wondering if anyone here uses their T97 for 3 gun competition? I am looking to possibly participate in some of the fun this year as work allows. My work schedule doesn't usually allow me to be committed %100 to anything recreational or organized competition. That said I would still like to try it out with what I got and and the rifle portion of the 3 is where I am lacking I suppose. I don't have an AR what I do have is a T97 FTU. I know the ergonomics of this unit are horrible compared to other platforms and I considered going for the LHG option but cost wise it may be more viable to run a Norc AR. Starting out I'd like to use my T97. Has anyone got any advice, tricks or mods on the cheap? Any tips or direction to instructional videos on handling this thing effectively in a competition?
 
If it's all you got then run it.

You're already aware of the limitations. Practice reloading and working the safety. It's a messed up rifle for 3 gun, so do you best and have fun.
 
Unless u have to use the safety alot... The T97 should serve u well., the biggest thing like stated is to practice practice practice. Especially those reloads cus that mag release is hard to reach in stressful situations.
 
You should try it out first in competition. I for one am glad to see some variety on the courses. Change is good and the only way we see change is to see if some platform or technique has some benefit over others.
 
I have owned it a while, bought it un-fired from a facebook auction over a year ago on a whim and only ran about 50 rounds thru it. I'm not a huge guy just a big guy and the whole rifle itself feels off to me, very small. Its odd to reach behind my strong hand for mag changes, I have been practicing a little bit today and I can't get a feel for it. I'll keep working at it a little bit but it is true what they say about bull pups and having to learn how to use a rifle all over again. I think it would have been much better had they kept the original QBZ design and rock in AK mags.
 
Dump it if you want to run 3 gun. The ergos on the T97 are terrible, and only slightly better with the pricey FTU and LHG upgrades. 99% of gun gamers run ARs for a reason: the ergos are good and you can see your controls in peripheral vision.

There are guys who have spent the time to get good with their Tavors, and they can do ok, but the Tavor has better ergonomic controls than the T97.

You stated the correct answer yourself: a Norc AR will cost less and run 3 gun games better.

I suppose this is the obvious truth huh?

I will likely list it for sale or trade. The truth is I don't use the thing because it doesn't fit. I am more of a shooter than I am a collector. Part of me says I should force it on myself to run it and get good with it but the logical part of me says that I should make everything as enjoyable as possible. Some might say keep the T97 and buy the Norc AR. For many accumulation is part of the fun but I get some jollies on moving things around and bartering to get what I want and keeping things affordable.
 
The only other issue to consider is if you hope to shoot any matches in the US, the rifle barrel must be at least 16 inches and a Norc will not be allowed into the US. There are a few other budget brand AR's out there that will not be restricted access to the states (Smith and Wesson for example) if you think you may want to keep that option open.

If you're just shooting locally, then a Norc and/or short barrel rifle is good to go.

Why try to boil the ocean? Just go out and shoot a match. Then figure out what you have to do and whether or not you like it.

I am somewhat of a planner by nature. I usually over analyze every decision I ever make. I try not to go haphazard on anything, often when I have questions I reach out and try to make the best decision from there. The original post was mostly reaching out to see if anyone could offer any advice on handling the T97 in competition but over the course of the day I figured I would try and list it and see what comes of that. In my eyes either way its a win, I'm impartial to either outcome.
 
you're not going to win anything at your first match....guaranteed. Just go out and shoot and have fun (the upgrades comes later). Analysis paralysis doesn't get you anywhere.

There will be more than enough guys at your first match to give you tips
 
I'm excited to give it a try either way and I will be there T97 in hand, and practiced up when the spring comes around. I have it listed for trade, I am into the whole barter thing. If someone gets what they are looking for and I get what I am looking for then everyone wins. I doubt I will sell it, i would rather try before I sell.
