T97... Are you happy with your purchase? Sights no good?

Just want some feedback now that guys have had some time to figure everything out and put some rounds through em.

My concern is the sights, as mounting optics is not ideal, at least till I could get the new upper/rail setup.

Reliability by all accounts is good, so what else is there to be concerned with?

Was putting a few rounds (AE 55gr. FMJ) downrange yesterday, and had no issues with the sights.
At 25 yards, the #1 aperture was placing the rounds a couple of inches low...#3 was right on...and #5 was a couple of inches high....all perfectly centred.
I haven't sat down to figure what that would translate into at 50, 100, 200 yards, but I'm sure someone else will chime in with this data.
(I have one of the flat top conversions on order, but could happily live with the current set up.)
 
I cant use the sights worth a damn like not even 25 yards. I can see the front post but the rear is blurry 120 rds and i didnt hit a foot by a foot gong even once. Reliability wise the silver RRA lar mag i have pushes the bullet in sometimes. It may be a crap mag as the stock norcinco mag hasn done it even once. As for cleaning the rifle i love how easy it is to strip down and clean
 
The sights suck.
Just about the worst peep style irons I've seen. Got one of m14.ca's flat top uppers ordered for it to fix that though.
The sights correlate to 100, 300, 400 yards. Smallest to largest opening. 6" gongs at 100 yards is no problem.
The rest of the rifle is great, mines been 100% on function, although I did recut the feed ramp to match my lar mags before it was ever fired. It's knocked out many a coyote already.
 
I think the sights are OK, provided you use #3. #1 is too small for anything moving. Mine has been flawless, no fte /ftf. Nada for problems, bang everytime, and as accurate or better than my Ar15's and mini-14. Currently running a leupold delta point on a Canada Ammo rail, that seems rock solid, and not canted. Despite all the moaning, I find it very comfortable to hold, though the mag release should be at least bigger. Ergonomically, it is much more comfortable to point than my HK sl8 that I just got, despite being very odd looking. Everything has it's flaws if you look close enough, but I'm happy with mine.
 
Happy with mine too!!
No mods at all....just cleaned and oiled it and started blasting.
No problems with my LAR and PCV mags.
NO stoppages of any kind so far...good fun.

I think the trigger pull on mine is pretty good for a Norinco ;) and being a bullpup. it's actually decent.
I really like mine so far. The sights are ok. Not great but not terrible. I also have the FTU coming for mine but the more I use it the more I like it just the way it is. Might get another and leave it stock. Great truck gun.
 
Crappy sights and awkward mag release but we all know that. And with time, I've learned how to deal with both.

100% reliable with approximately 400 rounds through it; zero FTE/FTF using surplus 5.56 off of a variety of LAR mags.

I've got one of Clob's mounts but haven't installed it yet. I'd like to give it a go with some sort of x20 optics, maybe the VOMZ or something similar. Very pleased, plus the look on people's faces when I pull it out and tell them it's non-res is worth the price of admission all on its own.

care to elaborate on how to "recut" the feed ramps?

It's been covered here before, but basically insert a loaded mag (dummy rounds !) and have a look at where the projectile tip is sitting.
Some mags like the lar's sit to low and the round is banged into a flat surface.
Take a file and add a little more bevel cut to the base of the feed ramp.

I personally love the iron sights on the rifle, I have used them out to 230 yds. I always hit what I am aiming at. I have had one malfunction in 3-400 rounds which was ammunition related (norinco ammo), and other than that it functions flawlessly! Fit and finish are superb on my rifle also.

With practice magazine changes have gotten quite fast (using my left arm for magazine changes is the best way). The safety is in a weird place but I never use it. The magazine release is like a button, circular and small, I will replace it when replacements are available. It is by no means a deal breaker though. Trigger pull is nice for a bullpup. The trigger may get better if the M14.ca lower works out as planned as well.

I would recommend you get one, they are too fun to miss out on!

I quite like mine as well. Sights are nothing to brag about but they get the job done. All I've shot through mine is fmj Norinco yellow box and I've had zero issues with any of my LAR mags. You can see copper lines where the round scuffs the blunt feed ramp (if you can call it that), so if I decide to apply some relief I now have guide marks. Look forward to receiving the gun I ordered from CanadaAmmo when they arrive for comparison.
 
Go for it man, you won't regret it. It's not 100 perfect but you will be able to live with it like me. I'm not the fan of their rear sight but I can live with it. At 25 yard, you won't miss the 6 '' round target, more than that you just need to pratice or simply scope it with 4x or something like that.

As for the mag, I use gen 3 p-mag and it's reliable since day one. No mod and such.
 
I tried one for 5 rounds at the range. I don't know how the sights were set up but I was missing easy targets at 100 yards so I'd guess it was not setup correctly for me.
I found the sights not as good as most other peep's I have used.
