If you could only afford one which would you buy? Don't say buy an AR, cause I have one. Has anybody actually managed to get either repaired under warranty?

buy which one makes you happy, they are both good to go, ergos on the t97 aren't great but compared to your AR most things wont be. no clue about warranty though

T97:

-takes AR magazines
-uses a caliber you already own

T81:

-AK like
-need to buy more magazines (do AK mag fit ?)

I'd probably go for a T97 based on mag/caliber commonality with other platforms I own

I am going to check out the ergonomics of the t97 at Al Flaherty today. Have to see if I can run it with my post op wrist. I hate getting old. Either way, one of them is coming home soon. Hope my wife’s sjw friends have a short to ground and release the magic smoke when they get a load of this thing.

I've only shot a T-97, never owned one and I used to own a T-81.
I like the T-81 better but both are going to be a headache if you need repairs or parts.
To me anything Norinco that isn't a copy of something more mainstream is a disposable rifle. Even a Norinco AR isn't exactly compatible with a lot of US made parts without fitting.

The T-81 can use modified AK mags, if you go to the red rifle section and find the T-81 thread I started you'll see the pics I posted on how to modify a Magpul AK pmag to work, it's pretty easy.

Honestly, I'd buy neither.

Wrist and age post op???
Sounds like speed may not be your friend for drills and reloads.
In that case ergos make less of a difference.

Type97 gebn one with carryhandle sight, cheaper, less optic frindly.
Simple as all out, good to go if you like iron sights.

Type 97 gen two, way more optic friendly.

Type 81, nice deal too.
You have that red rifle problem of what and how to mount an optic.
Good if you like iron sights.

The difference to me is the projectile.
5.56 is a great round for variety and accuracy potential.
Nice flat trajectory.
7.62x39 might be cheaper and good for dear but it is not as accurate a round for target or plinking fun.
A lot of ballistic drop for the ranges given.

Could you post up a link to it ?

I ended up picking up the last 97FT from Al’s. It seemed to be a natural fit and worked well with the new and not so improved wrist. I had a proximal row carpectomy two month ago. Three bones missing from my dominant hand makes for a simple hinge instead of an articulated joint. My reward for decades of hard work. If I can swing a few sales on my restricteds I may end up getting the t81 too and deliver another FU to the Justin crew.

That what I say when people act like I am eviscerating them when I quote $1000+tax to do a brake job on a corolla. Doesn’t go over well for some reason.

$1000 brake job on a Corolla ?! I understand why it doesnt go well... It took me 2 hours to change all 4 corners. 200$ worth of parts. Even if I was estimating my time at a 200$ an hour, I'm still 400$ below what you are asking.

ask them, how much are their lives are worth? 1 of my service advisor's favorite line. Guaranteed to sell a brake job.

Heck, as long as there is a baby seat in that car, he can sell anything.

My only grievance with my T97 gen 2 was the wandering zero. That picatinny rail required some adhesive on the bolts to stay put. I'd zero it, hit some great groups at 200m then I'd lose zero next time at the range and wanna refund it. I would have kept it if it maintained zero honestly...

Dealership life brother. OE pads and rotors cost probably $500 to the customers, yes you can go aftermarket but when the vehicle has an unintended acceleration or a matter of interest ( MVA or thermal event) five bucks saids NAPA will run and tell you to pound sand. Where OEM will back up the repair or you under a court of law.

1000$ actually sounds right.

1.5 hr for front= $225 for labour 1.4hr for the rear. which is another $225. + your parts 130$ per rotor and 150$ for a set of pads.= 1000$

$200 is some pretty low grade stuff. Nothing I would be willing to warranty. To put thing in perspective, our rent is $10,000 per month. Lots of things you can get away with under the shade tree would get me sued.
