Thank you. I don't know where but I read somewhere that the rails the bolt rides on where aluminum

Aluminum, I have a magnet and a T97 here right now in front of me, and it is aluminum.
Only the receiver is aluminum, it is joined to the barrel by the 2 larges pins near the chamber and locking lugs, all metal parts in front are steel, the receiver's body is aluminum with several steel parts.

But that doesn't mean it's bad, ARs are aluminium receivers too. I've had thousands of rounds through my type 97 with very minimal usage wear

I own two type 97's and no idea what the round count would be but im sure its the 4000-5000 round range each. No issues at all.

It's been back for years now man, where have you been?
The rifles have, in a form missing a few features. But the carbines haven't.
That's be a nice thing to see in 2016! A T97 with the correct sights and bayo lug, and a T97 Carbine! A T97-1 would be alright, too!

I made a thread about it
Apparently EMEI cheaped out on the front sight to save a few bucks. When you see complaints about the sights sucking or causing eye strain, this is why. It would otherwise have a very pleasant sight picture.

The receiver is made of aluminum that has an alloying element of MSG.
And like I have to keep saying, apparently:
"If you want to shoot irons, you should buy a dremel, cut the irons off, then pay a few hundred dollars to replace plastic parts with heavier metal ones, then attach some flip up irons."
Can you please understand why I don't see this as a solution?
I have a Tavor. I don't want another Tavor. I wan't something lighter and simpler, but I want it to have the features it's supposed to have.

I do understand where you are coming from, they should have better Irons, but the FTU is what I wanted for a lower optics mount.
Regardless how good the irons are, a design with poor mounting capabilities is outdated in this day and age
