Hi.

Sooner than later thinking of buying what liberals call a .223 black death gun (Non res). Whats the general consensus on the t97ftu? I know the ergo's are crap but hows the trigger?
Or should i lean towards a xcr or vz58?

thanks for the input.

LEAN HARD on the xcr then the vz58 those t97s are junk Add bits and pieces to the t97...eg red dot sight, light, laser, t-grip and the t97 could well be the first Medusa firearm....a gun so ugly you don’t need to shoot it to incapacitate your attacker not to mention the gawd awful trigger (my comment goes for the tavor as well) Get the XCR over the vz58

If you're looking at XCR money look at a Tavor... I would avoid the T97 if you have the opportunity to spend the extra cash and get a high quality firearm.

Having dabbled in many NR black rifles, as far as affordability goes I vote for:
-VZ58 for the <$1000 budget
-XCR for the <$2000 budget
-Tavor for the <$2500 budget
-ACR for the <$3000 budget

The ones that made the "avoid unless you are just collecting" list are:
-T97
-FS2000

ME and a buddy just got back from the range playing around with his FTU T97..... he has had it for at least a year now.... so far it strikes him as an excellent gun for the money. He uses it mainly for Coyote hunting, and plinking. Equipped with a 4x Votex optic, ive witnessed him on many occasions get 2"-3" 5rnd groups off a rest with nothing but Norinco surplus. The only time ive ever seen it monkey around or jam, is when a mag hasent been loaded or seated properly, OR if you slowly let the bolt slide forward.

I personally find the trigger on those guns to be garbage, very springy and super long travel, comparative to a Glock handgun. The safety as often mentioned is REALLY bad, but unless your shooting in competitions or other situations where you use a safety all of the time, what does it really matter if it takes you an extra 2 seconds to use it ?

The mag release button sucks too....

Im personally not a big bullpup fan just because I dislike the way they handle, but I can see their merits, they make excellent vehicle and CQ guns.

For the money, there is no alternative that I know of. I would chose the T97 over the vz58, every time. And if you're willing to put the xcr kind of money on the line, you can get up grades to the T97 (if you feel the need) and also afford a lot of ammo. I have XR-L's , XCR-M and the T97, that I put both the T97.ca upper and lower hand guards on.

I love my T97's, they are my favorite guns.

If you get the LHG the ergos are fixed for the safety too.

Factory trigger is squishy but not heavy. The LHG makes it a shorter pull but there is no definite break. Not a match trigger but plenty fine for anything IMO
