T97 vs Tavor Threads Merged

FINALLY... after 7 attempts and 4 different editing programs I finally got this video to upload. The quality is not great but its the best i could do. My original attempts had nice titles and stuff. It just kept failing. So I went back to the basics. At least you can see how both guns shoot.

You can see the T97 smoking after 20 rounds. It started pretty warm already but the smoke was coming out of every crack on the gun. Even behind the grip. Im sure it was just excess G96 burning off but my Tavor has never done that. I need to practice reloads with the T97 more. Im sure with a little effort I could get pretty fast with it.

How do you find the height of the red dot? It looks like when benched it's not bad at all. Still get a cheek weld from what I could see. Would like to hear if a really low mounted red dot is decent or not on this rifle.

Its decent... It's not great. Ill be testing out my make shift cheek riser tomorrow. I think it will solve the problem. But an optic any higher than mine would have to be difficult to use I would think.
I feel like there's a better way to get a rail on the handle that could position the optic just a hair lower. I'm going to do some investigating and brainstorming. I think anything better than what we have now is going to require you to sacrifice (as in, completely and permanently remove) your rear sight.

is the t97 worth it?
Norinco started from scratch and cloned the AR for Less than $700 (for a limited market).
T95, 97ishes are producing (for all their troops and the allied countries) and backed by the State right now! They just modified it to make it more difficult for us to handle/shoot!
I think less than $700 will be a fair price of T97!

I was more so referring to people who are buying good firearms from good manufacturers, spend your money once, even if it is more and spend it right...everyone makes a lemon once in a while but yea. I will never buy anything KEL TEC personally.

Who says NORINCO is a good manufacture. Lots of horror stories of M305's bolts blowing up, 12.5" barrel shotgun bolts jamming do to poor machining, Cracked receivers on pistols.

Yeah there A1 ;)

But early to be commenting on the quality and reliability of the T97 until a few thousand get into people's hands and they get a few thousand rounds down the pipe.

I have a Marstar M14, zero issues.
We have two Marstar M4's, zero issues.
I have a CanAm Dominion Arms Grizzly, zero issues.
I have two 1911 pistols, one from CanAm (499 pistol & ammo deal), one from Marstar (Commander), zero issues.
I now have a SFRC (North Sylva) T97, and hope that it also has zero issues... First range day tomorrow.

To me, Norinco firearms allow folks to get in the game for less $$$... Not everyone can afford the other options...

And sh1t, I just realized we have 7 CHINESE guns in the collection... How'd that happen???

Cheers
Jay

You should see the pile of canam targets I have. Lol... ive been stocking up on .223 in anticipation of a Tavor and T97... and stocking up on 1911's... I have a sizeable collection of mini M16 pens, Calibre magazines and... of course... targets. Lol

I hope your being sarcastic. I have the Tavor and got the T97 yesterday. I like the T97 but the Tavor is in a different league. The Tavor feels a lot more solid and is a lot more ergonomic. You can mount a Tavor to your shoulder and hold it there for 30 minutes no problem, the safety is a dream to operate and the magazine release is way better than the T97. Tavor score 90/100 T97 score 65/100. I will admit that the T97 trigger is a lot better than the Tavors.
tHE tYPE97 IS FAR MORE ERGONOMIC THAN THE BLOCKY tAVOR RIFLE. wEIGHT DIFFERENCE? i'LL TAKE THE 97 OVER THE LEFTY FRIENDLY tAVOR EVEN THOUGH i'D BE FORCED TO SHOOT THE 97 FROM THE WRONG SHOULDER.

T97 VS Tavor thread... I own both and have pics of both.

Heres another video. this was my first few runs with the gun. Sorry for the bad camera angle... hard to see what your filming while your filming yourself. Lol.

Anyone who tries to make the point that these are competing guns cant seriously think you SHOULDNT get more for your money.
You buy a chevy for a reason, you buy a cadillac for a reason and there is a GOOD reason they dont cost the same $$. They both DO the same thing, get you from A-B... they both function fine. But if your looking for ultimate refinement and high end ergonomics you go with the Cadillac IF you can afford it. If you just want to drive around and have some fun, a Chevy will do just fine.

Lets not turn this into a Chevy/Cadillac thing... I dont care if you like or agree with my analogy. Its concept is sound.

Very well put , my thoughts exactly.

Was at the range today and two people brought their brand new T97s. One guy let me shoot his and here's my first impression:

- the 10-round AT15 mags will not fit
- the PMAGs won't fit
- charging handle is pretty smooth
- heavier than it looks, nice heft but not too heavy
- at gas setting 1 it spits the brass out at least 8 meters away LOL
- soft recoil, not a lot of muzzle rise
- iron sight is not that great but usable
- build quality is better than Norc's ARs and M305s
- the plastic/polymer quality is nowhere near Tavor's. Pretty good for a Norc though.
- Mag release button is a bit strange to use but I don't think it'll be a problem once you get used to it
- trigger is pretty light but it's not easy to know when it'll break. It just goes and goes and then bam.
- it shoudlered pretty naturally for me. I didn't have to think too much about it. I'd say the ergo feels pretty good.
- mounting optics might take some experimenting as you'll need something really low and close to the rail, or you'll end up chin-welding to the stock.

My conclusion is: if I didn't have a Tavor already I'd pick one up for sure. It's a fun little NR bullpup that seems to shoot pretty well and has good build quality for its category (cheapest bullpup on the market by a large margin). However, if you're willing to save up a bit more, I'd say get the Tavor instead.

Gotta say, the t97 feels really really really cheap, feels like an airgun or a supersoaker watergun. I havent shot it yet, but it feels really flimsy. The tavor, you just feel the quality from picking it up immediately. I'm entitled to say this, because well, I own both of these rifles, so it's not my ##### is bigger than yours kind of deal.

I promise I will never again complain about the one drawback of the AR platform...a 2.6" HOB.

Americans will be so jelly! Well neutered mag sizes still probably make them chuckle a bit, but this is a great time to be Canadian

Nope... I agree. I think the T97 is a very capable platform that, with some practice, could be run pretty well. But for me, the Tavor just works in every way. But it also costs more than double the T97... So we're back to square one. They are NOT on the same level and can't really be judged as such.
