T97NSR-A (Rail Variant)

I like the way this new T97 looks. It's not anything against the FTU in my case, I just happen to prefer this... Can we please not start an internet cat fight over this? There's nothing wrong with the Tavor, it's a gun, and guns are why we are here...

More important than a rail is a lower with proper fighting rifle ergonomics; safety catch manipulation and mag catch are completely ridiculous and until it changes I'm not buying one... '

Form over function, same logic that got us Turdeau 2.0

I have never had an issue with the original T97. No, it's not super-tacticool-uber-modern-warfighter, nor is is designed as a marksman's firearm... I like the way it looks, I don't mind the controls at all, and it's a decent rifle for its purpose as far as accuracy is concerned. I started this thread to ask a question, not talk politics or start a flame war between different parts/firearms manufacturers and products.

I contacted Emei about this back in July and they claimed (in exceedingly broken English) that the new T97 should be available in March 2016 at the latest. They also alluded to having addressed the keymod issue. In short, their rep said "the version you see here isn't our exact final, as we are still making some minor detail corrections" (again, terrible English so that's paraphrased something awful). I can only assume they figured out the issues with the key shaped holes vs. real keymod ports. The reason I started this thread was to gain a confirmation from the Canadian side of importation. That, and it seems a lot of people were not aware of this rifle. There is a nice review of what I assume is a prototype version done by PakGuns over in Pakistan:

From that thread on Pakguns, I noticed this:
The price I paid was in figures nearing 200K. (post # 17)

An online currency converter gave this:
200,000.00 PKR = 2,639.44 CAD
Pakistani Rupee ↔ Canadian Dollar
1 PKR = 0.0131972 CAD 1 CAD = 75.7737 PKR

YIKES!

I like this model , i prefer the design over the ftu made here . The rail seems to be a bit lower than the canadian FTU so it would work better with AR risers and BUIS . Stock to rail hight more inline with a AR .

Yikes is right! However, I may be able to explain that. The version they have is not the same as the production version that was posted earlier in this thread. It's possible that the guns that the Pakistani guys got their hands on were prototypes (therefore "limited" in a sense). I also don't know what their market is like. It could be they have some crazy import costs/nut-so taxes/weird mark ups or the like that we don't. The production version is slated to come out this Spring and it's likely we'll find a much more reasonable price closer to that $1000 mark.

I can confirm Pakistani prices are really high, a price list has a Glock 17 valued at 250 000 of their currency. So it's not the price of the new T97, it's just what their prices are like. We should have a much better price that is at or around the same as the original rifle :)

Yes Pakistan market is very pricey. A glock goes for we'll over 2k cad. It's dealer markup in that market.

At this moment, the Chinese factory are in full production for the T97 rail top version. Including enhanced feeding ramp for reliability.

Now comes the bad news, they are not sure if type81 can be on Canadian market end this year since the production speed is not that fast.

Well that explains why the existing stock is on sale for $800 ish.
