So i have be looking to get a tacicool shotgun for a long time and for the most part been looking only at the rem 870 (im not a fan of Mossberg's don't ask) but I'm starting to see allot of Benelli supernovas and am wondering are they comparable, I'm looking to use it in 3-gun comps or just fooling around (i have a gun for hunting already) any imput would help thanks.

I found generally, there's more stuff out there for the 870 and mossberg 500 shotguns, so if you're looking for a small build project to have fun, I'd say go with the 870... I think, unless you go with the Wingmaster or police model 870, the Benelli would shoot better for 3-gun... The express requires a bit of TLC if you're gonna compete with it.

Though I could be way out of left field, I only own an 870 express, that I've tacti-cooled up, and have only shot the super nova a few times

Go Benelli, recent 870s are like an airsoft copy of what they once were.

A week ago I picked up a lightly used wingmaster at Epp's for $200 with the older police style stocks. For 3 gun, cut the barrel to 18 1/2 add a plus 2 extension and you are good to go as it stands. I sold the stock for $75, the barrel for $80. That means I have a Wingmaster receiver for $45, add a stock of your choice and a short barrel and you have a wicked gun at a excellant price. You can trick them out or just go bare bones. either way the wingmaster is the route to go.

Go with anything BUT a Chinese gun!!! Sure "some" work...most require hand work/parts exchanged to get them to work "decently"...hear about far many more that do NOT work then do.

Shop used if $$$ is tight.

If you want a solid shotgun, Remington is the way to go. Benelli shotguns are nice, but a little too much plastic and don't have the track record.

You can buy my KSG and you'll be the coolest cat at the range lol

^^^^^^

Had one and sold it, just an express done up. Was fun but the shotty was rough. Machine marks everywhere rust also under my Mesa shell holder, had to take it off after outings to oil the receiver. Finish was cheap as hell.
Overall was just a cheap Tactical shotty that went bang but still twice the firearms as my DA.

My Valtro PM5 with 6 mags is bulletproof not one single problem and beyond smooth(can put 43 rounds down range faster than any tube feed) well other than some freak of nature shotgunners out there that .

Spend the extra $$$$ and get a quality street sweeper. Then buy cheap for fun times

X2

I have a Fabarm martial pro forces 14 with a TLR-1s on it. Beautifully made, 5+1 capacity, small and shoots very nicely. I have put around 350 rounds of birdshot through it, 100 slugs and a lot of buckshot with zero issues. I have also shot the Benelli supernova tac with 18.5 barrel and 14 barrel collapsable stock(another favourite) IMHO this type of shotgun is usually purchased for SD/HD so I prefer the shorter versions. Many will argue the capacity loss on the shorter versions but we aren't preparing for a firefight and in a self defense situation it will be over in one or two rounds, not 8.

ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Just pissed my pants a little

Firefight in a self defense situation...yeah right.
Just don't forget to load your shotgun first.
Now, back to the original topic.
Go with whatever You like the best...plastic or not.
Usually the human is the most unreliable part of the system anyway, so go and keep shooting that thing often.

Perhaps you misunderstood, I said "we are not preparing for a firefight" based on comments I often here from shooters regarding the fact that their 870.. Holds 7,8.. Rounds and is therefore superior. Not sure how that doesn't fit into a thread on tactical shotguns.

That's the part I'm referring to.
Our shotguns hold zero rounds, no matter how much You can squeeze into the tube.
They also should be locked away or at least trigger locked.
In self defense situation You'll be better off stabbing the guy than fighting all the locks and loading your shotgun while dealing with serious SNS activation.
Yeah...I know. Reality sucks.

You are right about that. Hopefully with a good safe one may get to his/her firearm if the need ever arose. I have a P30L in a small steel Gunvault with a mag sitting next to it. I can access it and insert the mag in under 10 seconds while legally stored.
Nothing is a failsafe device and the user is the biggest factor as stated. However, being prepared doesn't hurt. I do have a emmerson handy as well if time does not permit
