I would like someone to please xplain to me what type of tactical rifle match types there are? I am new to the game and would like to try it out, but would first like to learn a bit about the types there are, all that I know about right now is 3-gun but I am looking for something that type but with just rifles (If there is such a thing) shooting at distances of no more than 100yrds? I would like to try some kind of fast-paced, short-ranged shooting.

Thanks for the help.:)

We shoot Tac Rifle at my club in BC. I got the ball rolling on these 3 years ago and we have held a total of 16 matches to date. I expect you won't be able to attend our matches (given your location) but perhaps someone in Manitoba will jump in and fill you in on the local scene.

Apart from that, is there anything I can help you with or do you have questions I can answer? My club's website includes a few pics and a bit of info , just click on the link in my sig line.

Gothmog, we should have a photo page for TMSA TacRifle. It could be an inspiration to other clubs and groups. I'm sure us regulars have hundreds of photos between us.

That's a great idea ... I have an online album already set up.

I just need to have past participants get their pics to me. That way I can screen them before moving them to a publicly visible section of the album for general viewing. I could also add a few more pics to the TMSA website this way.

It would help if people could send a brief description along with pics ... ie- name the people in the pic, date of the shoot, etc.

You may recognize these people from one of the earliest matches in 2004.

What's the trouble?

Static from established sports or just lack of interest?

Tac Rifle seems to work best on a range facility with multiple pads, such as an IPSC oriented range. Unless you have a strong 'in' with that range's executive I can see there might be trouble bringing these matches into being. Also, very often range leases will bring in more cash than will a match, so there is an additional hill to climb. An exec whose attitude is more in line with promoting shooting sports than pulling in cash is generally helpful.

So you need the right facility, not too busy with an executive group who is willing to let you try out a totally new sport with people who have likely never done any action shooting in the past. I suppose there are a lot of potential snags ... I guess we've been lucky out here.

no lack of intrest just most clubs think that its to combat related, and for soem reason thatsa bad thing.
Mostly its an ontario thing, the cfo makes it as hard as posadle to do movement on the range and withthat most clubs will not even try to get a match going.
New club i have joined does alot of kinds of shooting so who know what we will get up to nexed year.
but a few clubs ahve done it EESA, EOHC.

So what about Tactical Rifle matches?

What would you like to know?

We're in BC, so we won't be organizing any for you, if that's what you're after .... :p

Oops, just noticed you were in GP Alta, and not Ontario.

Do you ever make it to the Lower Mainland? Our next shoot is Oct 22 and we're using WW2 firearms.

Excellent photos, Dude!
Where did you get them?

I'm not sure, actually ... but they are in my files. Are there any of yours in there, Tootall? That might explain the flattery ... ;) :D

I've taken some pics at matches, but not all that many .... I'd sure like to have the time at an event to take more pics! :)

Hi Max,
You'll find a description on the TMSA website (snoop around a bit, the link is in my sig line) and check out some of the threads in the CGN 'Events' section. Here is a thread on the upcoming match:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104193

It's basically an action shoot similar to IPSC or IDPA, but with semi auto rifles, mainly AR15's. It's way more entertaining than 'static' shooting and we appear to have a reasonable following in the Lower Mainland of BC. There may be similar matches in Alberta, but I'm not sure.
