Tacstar 6-Shot Side Saddle

There's nothing wrong with the Tacstar carriers. I have used many of them for a couple years with shells in and out several times a day, everyday. No failures of any kind. Sure, they're not as stylish as Mesa's.. but what are you going to do with them? Use them or just fondle them?

Don't waste your time with Tac star. My screws were broken off and had to buy a new one.
By buy a new one, I mean I gave my head a shake and bought Mesa. Haven't looked back since.

The Mesa shell holder is a much better choice.

You are better off with the MESA side saddle, sure they cost a little more but the quality is much better. I have both and the MESA is much better...

TacStar will work too, and I haven't replaced every TacStar, but once I saw the Mesa I knew I would never buy another TacStar.

The difference is obvious.

Speed feed stocks are difficult to load from and only carry four rounds.

The Mesa is a far better product than the Tacstar.

they are not difficult to load from at all. i can load off of both sides while keeping the gun shouldered. it was stiff at first, but its great now.

it only carries four rounds, but my mag tube carries seven. those side saddles are bulky and ugly. the speedfeed keeps the gun clean looking. i keep a 25 round shellbelt pre-loaded if i need a lot of slugs in a hurry.

its all opinion though. if you dont like speedfeed stocks, that is cool. just throwing it out there for discussion.

Thanks for the input guys. I got the Tacstar from Epps the next day. I do agree the Mesa appears more robust, but I learned this fact too late, and I don't intend to lose any sleep over the decision.

I was also able to find both Tacstar and Mesa saddles at Tacord, after I had already ordered from Epps.

....Yeah, but can you keep constant sight of your target while loading? I have a speed feed stock that came with my 590, it's not nearly as handy as a good ol' side saddle.

why wouldnt i be able to?

i simply keep it shouldered and grab the shells with my left hand. no different that a side saddle really.

do you really have issues pulling a shell out of a speedfeed or are you just disagreeing for the sake of it? maybe there are different models or something? mine loads two on each side and i have no difficulty loading from it. here is what it looks like.

No need to get your back up, bud. Perhaps your SG isn't as front heavy as mine? I don't like having to reach back almost to where it's shouldered. The shells are in the SF stock, but are rarley ever used, due to having to reach that far back.

All go with the side saddle, you go with the SF, if you wish.
Each to our own, I guess?

Tacstar is the best choice for a truck\bush gun. If you want to be a poser then spend the extra money on the Mesa. I have several of each and know which I'd rather break given the minor performance and major cost difference.

i didnt have my back up at all. i dont get where you got that impression?? no hard feelings on my end.

my barrel is 18.5 inches with a tactical choke tube and a maglight attached by a tacstar mag tube clamp. i elevate it when i reload. it seems to work alright.

i like the looks of the specter buttstock shellholder, http://www.spectergear.com/shotgun_bsh.htm but i think it would get in the way of the speedfeed. ultimately, my decision against an external shellholder is mainly a space issue. my safe is pretty crammed as it is and everyting has to go in and out a certain way.
