Hey guys,

Recently I have been thinking about adding some new accessories to an 870 wingmaster. Right now it has a folding choate stock and some sort of hard synthetic forestock (great setup - I know I know, if it aint broke, dont fix it;)). I have seen at the range a few times a pistol grip forestock, and the most common from what I can see are offered from Tacstar (at a fair price). My question is what are the fit/finish on these products? how do they feel? are they tough? or just plastic cosmetic pieces?

I was also wondering what there sidesaddles are like? and are they an easy install?

The general consensus is that with TacStar you get what you pay for. O.K. Considering the price. I didn't like them, so I went for higher quality gear like MESA.
 
I have 3 Tac-Star sidesaddles. They are better than ATI but I find them a bit stiff. Pulling shells out isn't as easy as it could be and it gets worse in the cold. Overall I am happy with them, but I will likely grab a Mesa for my SHTF shotgun.
 
I have the Tacstar foregrip, pistol grip and side saddle on my mossberg 500. No problems at all with this product. This gun rides around in a plywood box on my quad all year. The side saddle is tight enough that I place the 12 guage shells in upside down without worries about them falling out. This makes it far easier to get them out and into the gun quickly.
 
TacStar is crap.

If you appreciate quality then you will not purchase their products. Their sidesaddles are junk and grips/forends etc are cheap feeling.

If you want an excellent quality sidesaddle then you should check out the Mesa Tactical 'SureShell Shotshell Carriers' and their 'LEO' telescopic stock. Mesa Tactical's quality is second to none ;)
 
You must be pretty elite to have such strong opinions..... I run the bag off my shotgun, no way I am putting an $80 sidesaddle on it. No one says it is Mesa quality but it is far from crap.
 
From my understanding, Mesa products are far superior, however as B said, I really dont want to drop lots of money on an accessory.
 
The Mesa sidesaddle is a work of art, and the tacstar is on the low end of functional. Now that I have both I think I'd always buck up for the mesa in the future other than for a gun I completely intend to trash.
 
ok lets get real for a second hear.
Looks like we have showdown mesa side saddle v tacstar.
Ill give you the real goods on it.
The tac -star it really good for its price, holds the ammo well and allmost never drops the ammo out, but in cold weather the plastic gets stiff and does not hold the ammo well when installed upside down.

mesa tactical is well made, well finished, but when ammo is stored in it the rubber band does not hold the ammo in well, it will fall out.
When no ammo is installed and you try to put it in the holders you have to fight to get it in.
This is an issue as if you load up the holders with ammo and then go off to , the range, on patrol, hunting ect... and you use the ammo from the holder a short time after its been placed in the holders, its a real ##### to get out.
Both products have there issues.

Oww and i,m working on somthing better but made at least as good at the mesa tactical :)
will be end of summer befor its done complet testing :pirate:

The tacstat forgrip is a copy of the Thompson 45 cal smg.
The only issue i have it its kinda slippy plastic, much like the grizzly forend, id put some sk8t tape all over it if it were you, or one of them houge pistol slip on rubber things, i thing somthing that would fit a glock would be the right size.
