I've never used the Mesa, why do you perfer it to the Tacstar? What makes the Tacstar so bad in your eyes?

The Tac star is bulky, snags clothing, breaks in cold weather and ugly

The Mesa is low profile, soild, durable, holds the shells well and looks good too

I've never snagged mine on anything, I haven't tried the mesa to compare, but I don't feel as though the size of mine is too large or "bulky". I've never used my shotgun in any weather colder than maybe zero so I can't comment on that, but it is pretty abused during 3gun matches and i've have no issues with it in the past 2 years I've had it.

As for ugly? Well that's all a matter of opinion. Some people think I'm ugly....

Does anyone know if the Tacstar 6-shot saddle interferes with the Magpul Fore End? I havent got either and just doing my homework.... thanks!

I had the Mesa and the shells were falling out before I even started shooting. Put the white plastic retainer in and it was better, but I found I couldn't leave the shells in it for any length of time. I have never had a single problem with the tacstar, and am now starting to play with the elastic and Velcro ones. I like the idea of just taking off the whole unit if I want to change from shot to slugs and my case has a big Velcro patch in the pocket to hold the units

I've been using a Adventure Outpost shellholder on a mossberg 590 since 1992 with no problems, it predates the tacstar but it's the same thing,and have a mesa on 500.

Both are good,get what you can afford.

The tacstar isn't any bulker then the ammo it's holding.lol

What about promag?, cheap and has retention screws that can be adjusted to increase or decrease, you could make the retention anything you want. Never seen or tried it out, anybody have experience?

Tacstar works. Plain and simple, everything you mention is inaccurate.

6 round tacstar on my 590A1. I've yet to have a problem with it.
