"Tactical" .22 rifles and their status (with pics)...

AaronT,

How about you give us your "definition" of tactical ?...

At the risk of going waayyyyy off topic...

My idea of "Tactical" .22 cal LR is pretty much any Black/Green/Tan repeating rifle with an interchangeable magazine.

It gets extra "Tactical" points if it has some real world training value with a center fire cousin (i.e. S&W M&P or H&K).

By my own definition a plain old Ruger 10/22 painted black would be on the list but it isn't much of a "Tactical" rifle (unless you call the Mini 14 or 30 tactical). However, it is such great value and so well proven that I feel it deserves a place on the list -- at least with the Tapco stock added.

BTW - this list is really just a way for me to research a bunch of .22 cal rifles and see what is out there.

Edit: It should probably have a pistol grip and it would be a bonus if it had some kind of rail.

Don't forget to add the most evil of them all... the Calico M100... it so dangerous that the Liberal prohibited it by name!!!

And the Walther G22 also deserves a special mention for the money wasted in court... trying to decide its status... our clueless bureaucrates at work f:P:

How about the GSG-5? It's prohibited in canada <sad>.

I saw one down in the US the other weekend I was down there.....sweet MP-5 replica in .22 with a simulated suppressor on the front. They recalled the suppressor shroud recently since that piece of the gun got banned in the USA also.

This is a very nice looking 22. Added.

Found a website for FeatherUSA. At least I think it is their website??

The Deluxe Carry looks cool to me. Kind of like a Marlin Papoose or AR-7. I'll add it to the list... I am assuming the model numbers is Rav-22LR?

I don't know what model number is, and only heard some speculation that they are prohibited, 9mm models at least. 22 models are probably "only" restricted - don't quote me as I really don't know.

Well lets start with the Gran-daddy of all tacticals, the Thompson. Those got burned in the first wave.
Almost everything and anything made by Armi Jaeger under the AP banner got nixed ( with the exception of the AP-74 m-16 clone), iirc there was the AK, PPSH, and Galil copies that all got banned.
Also the American 180's and anything that remotely resembled them.
The MP5 copies made by GSG got banned before they showed up based on the "looks like" not "works like" RCMP interpretation.
I'd be very surprised to see a Kel-Tec Su 22 in any canadian store.
That's about all the one's i can remember atm. To long a list it seems.

Well, the SU-22 might be possible to get onto the Canadian market some day in the near future. The PLR-22 pistol is already available up here, and now we have Vault Distibution working on getting a lot of Kel-Tec's other stuff brought in.

Added the Kel Tec SU-22 (don't know how I missed that ... Nutn even has a vid on it --- the whole frik'n world must be trying to buy one).
