What would you say the most "tactical" looking bolt action .308 is? I'm looking into buying a new sniper-type rifle for long range shooting, but I haven't been too impressed with some of the designs I've looked at. The AI rifles are appealing, but the price is way out of my league (the rifle probably is too considering its my first non-AR rifle). Any ideas for a noob? Thanks.

remington 700P

If you believe its not tactical enough, go rent any movie involving a swat team and snipers, and check out what they are using.

How about the Tubb 2000, AMP DSR ,FN SPR,Sako TRG22/42 ,Winchester Stealth,Savage 10 LE ,McMillan MRCT,it is your choice but the Savage 10LE w/Mcmilllan A2 Stock is a Bargain when compared to the Remington

The Sako TRG 22 is a rifle that would fit the bill perfectly but also on the pricey side at around $3500. One rifle I would consider is the Weatherby TRR(Threat Response Rifle). I haven't used one but I have heard really good things about them, and at just under $1800 for a well built, very accurate factory rifle this may be one to consider.

Best entry level Tactical Rifle is Remington PSS. There are many reasons 95% plus of all the SWAT Teams use it. It has great price, real world long term use and under 1moa accuracy out of everyone.

If it's "Look Cool Value" something in an AICS or a Sako TRG is the way to go. For a normal tactical looking shooter, go for the Savage 10FPLE2B.

For the money, you can't beat the Savage 10FPLE2B. Proven action, good heavy barrel and the McMillan A2 stock right out of the box. there is alos a lot of accessories now availabe for the Savage rifles.

If by "tactical" looking you mean a rifle with a "cool" looking style be prepared to pay close to $4000.00 and up (e.g. AI, TRG, Steyr etc...) But you will get a very quality and very acurate rifle out of the box. Add another few thousand for a high end scope and accessories to make your tactical outfit complete. Military and rich people's budget only. Tikka T3 tactical and Steyr Scout Tactical are the bottom end of the high end but I still hear complaints that they look more like run of the mill hunting rifles than tactical military.
A remington 700 action with a PS tactical looking stock will still set you back a few thousand when all is said and done. Unfortunately nothing is really inexpensive in with these kinds of rifles.

Please Please don't buy "The most Tactical LOOKING RIFLE" Thats just plain wrong!!! Buy a rifle that fits you, Buy a rifle in a caliber you can comfortably and ACCURATELY shoot. Buy A rifle that is going to get you to the ranges you want to reach, Have the power to take down the game you want to chase, and the precision to win you competitions. I've seen alot of guy's show up with the "COOL" looking gear ......well All show no go, need I say more. If you want to buy most Tactical Looking buy an Airsoft they have some real TACTICAL looking #### that looks cool as hell and save ya a pile of Cash!!

Just an Opinion
Have a good one

Tactical looking and accurate are not always the same thing. The idea of buying a gun strickly on looks is like getting married to a model who you only see but have not met. May look good but can she cook?
As some have mentioned, the Savage LE2B is hard to beat for accuracy, and they are priced well, if you want further upscale a Rem 700 P with minor mods work very well, if you want to really spend money why not look at getting a custom made? That way you can dictate what the look is and it will shoot well too.

I'll go with what ATR has said:
If you want a stock rifle for around a grand, than it is either a 700P or an LE2B from savage.

If you are ready to spend more, dont screw around with TRGs and AIs and all the other super costly STOCK rifles, get a good smith to build you a custom one for equal or maybe even slightly less.

Just taking suggestions my man. I'm too broke to spend good money on a rifle that looks good that I end up hating. Did that once with an od green p99 in .40cal... never again! ...but thanks for your concern.:D

Gunn I appologize if I was sounding condensending, not what I was trying to do at all. To me Tactical means Practical, Practical for the goal you are trying to achieve with your firearm. And you purchase, build, have built, or equip accordingly. It is a real Pet peave of mine to see people spend a pile of coin on guns and gear because it is cool or expensive and not have the slightest clue or fundementals in Marksmanship skill. Up here we see alot of it, just ask any of the Mcmurray gun nutz on this sight, we see it at the range almost every time we head out. One guy in particular showed up with a Quality European rifle, European Scope, sling, rests, the latest in gear, a range box full of every brand/grain weight of commercial ammunition made......but only one box of each??? and the latest in silly bugger in the bush cammo and boots. Wish I was getting that salesmans commision..Well you know where this story is going probably around $7,000+ in gear and after a whole afternoon not a bullet hole on paper at 100 yrds. Not that none of us didnt try to help this guy out. He just wanted to let us know all about his investment and how good it was... so after 10 minutes of that we were all back to doing our own thing.

Anyway back to topic at hand.... In my OPINION:) The savage is the best bang for the buck outa the box. But The Rem Police is probably the best if you want to start out with factory and then upgrade as money permits.

Happy Shooting!!
