Tactical Carbine low cost build.

I'll play too. Here's my cheap AR build with some extra stuff I had laying around.

Surefire 60rd mag,nice.

So,if you don't mind me asking, whats that set up worth?

I have to say, I read all of the posts before the lock-down and wanted to post something just after 'Tiriaq's post and decided to 'bite my tongue'. I came back to it after WP go into it with the OP and just shook my head.

If the OP and other shooters want to dress up their cheap ARs with other cheap crappy parts that makes themselves feel good about themselves in front of the mirror or on the firing point, who are the rest of the board to correct them?
I'll tell you - when you come onto this board and start posting stuff know that there are several members with less knowledge that may read your posts as being on the level, and may actually source products based on your recommendations. You should also know there are more than a fair share that have been around the block more than a few times and forgotten more about ARs and firearms in general than you think you know. Don't be shocked when you are called on your BullShiite!!

All those folks out there looking to dump money on a cheap carbine and keeping it cheap? Buy a decent quality AR, keep it as basic as possible, buy ammo, a sling, cleaning kit and good quality mags, and get shooting. You don't need deals on crap off eBay/amazon to make them work.

I personally would not run a Norinco AR (but do have one of their M14 copies and fairly happy with it), nor would I run the current versions of the NEA ARs until they get their QC squared away.
There is enough good quality US made stuff that is reasonably priced available from vendors on this site and Brownell's that makes ARs economical without having to resort to purchasing off shore.

Here is another cheap trick to improve a trigger - which can enhance shooting potential:
The grip screw threads into a hole that pierces the bottom of the frame. Directly above this hole is the tail end of the trigger.
Basically, a setscrew with the diameter and threads of the grip screw is run into this hole. Place the selector on safe, and turn the screw in until the trigger is bearing against the safety. This removes a lot of the take up creep from the mechanism. Run in a second setscrew to jam the first one in place. It may be necessary to shorten the grip screw. Make sure the safety function is not compromised. Make sure that the trigger is functionning reliably and safely.
I have never checked a Norinco, but my US made lowers have 1/4-28 grip screws. I made setscrews by simply cutting off short lengths of 1/4-28 screws, cleaning up the cut ends, and cutting screwdriver slots.
This, along with the paracord trick, can significantly improve trigger pull.

I'm not exactly sure what the term "tactical" is supposed to mean. Modifications that enhance effectiveness, and improve shooting performance are worthwhile. It is remarkable how few "tactical" modifications are evident on rifles used by top shooters.

Nice setup. I really like the paint job on the EOTech hood with the Maple Leaf stencil - nice touch.

It makes no sense to me that so many guys enjoy the Norc/Poly M14's and very, very few would ever think about dropping the 2k+ on a Springfield M1A. Yet, it's the exact opposite for AR's as so many guys spend 2k+ on a US made rifle and turn their noses up the Norc.

If my life depended on my rifle, then no I would not likely choose a Norc. But, as was correctly pointed out, AR-15's are just range queen's for 99.99% of Canadians and for that a Norc is a very economical way to get in the game and have a heck of a lot of fun.

2 things,

The reason guys don't jump right into the SA M14's is because they're grossly overpriced. The norcs also have a forged reciever, a good foundation to start on. Our options for M14's in Canada are very limited. You can build up a Norc with quality parts and still save 1000 bucks over the SA M14. Your comparison is apples and oranges.

Why does it matter if our ARs are "range queens" as you put it? Believe it or not, but most Canadiens do there shooting at ranges, service rifle, 3 gun, IPSC, IDPA, and general plinking... So what does it matter if a guy has quality and uses the range, I don't get it....

Ok, Both are corporals. Both have marksman quals. But (and this is a big but), WP has Sharpshooter for both pistol and rifle. He has a better rifle too. Moreover he has No1's (and he kept his collar dogs on for the photograph) in his photograph and Syncro only has DEU's (Militia at that).
Ladies and Gentleman, I declare Wicked Police the clear winner.:D
Just kidding guys. I don't even have an AR. I have shot them but don't want one. I do have a Lee Enfield No4 Mk 1/2.

Have fun with the AR's and be safe. Syncro and WP, thank-you for your service.

Teapot out.
