Just wanted some NutterZ opinions on a couple of handguards. I was looking to replace the handguard on my 11.5" AR with a quad rail tactical one. I'm not looking to spend more than $200. Im looking to add a vertical grip as well.

I was considering either the Midwest Industries carbine non-float quad for $160...

...or the quad rail sold from Questar for $89. Are either just as good..?

or would buy from any members on here if you got em...thanks

Go free float or go home.
I had one of the snap in ones and found it moved around a bit with a vert grip.
I wasn't happy with it

If that's your budget, look for a used free float quad rail

People can claim all they want that the UTG handguard was made for airsoft but i doubt it. Mine is dead solid and and for the money it is impossible to beat. Sure a FF would be better but if you are thinking of saving some money by getting a snap/bolt on then I would suggest the UTG. Psst...TSE has them for around 70 bucks (thats where I got mine).

I have an 11.5 as well, here is what it looks like on my AR (btw the grip pannels are garbage but with the money you save you can buy nice TD ones)

Just mounted a Midwest Ind. on mine and the thing is rock solid. Give Ryan a call at Wolverine, great guy to deal with.

Okay,

I'm going for a Midwest Industries free-float 2 piece carbine hanguard for $196...
Tango down vertical grip for $67..and handguard panels for $16..
And the UTG rear flip down sight for $40..
Also a bushnell holosight for $270

now I just need a better stock..maybe the magpul..??

"you get what you pay for" - is often what people who charge too much, and people who spend to much like to say.

Why shop around then?

The UTG is not for airsoft - do airsoft ar15's have barrel nuts? - maybe some.

I had a UTG quad rail on my Stag and I'd like someone to tell me why I was better off with the plastic hand guards.

The UTG quad rail is awesome, rock solid, and tough to beat; especially for the price.

UTG produces many products intended for airsoft. Although your rail may be "solid" it is not intended to have optics mounted to it. In fact, most drop in rail systems are not secure enough to mount optics and maintain zero. Although the factory handguards are plastic, They're tough to break and still cheaper than the UTG forend to replace.

The intended role of the rifle really dictates what style of handguard(drop in or free float) is appropriate for the task. Often times cost is also a major factor. If you shoot for sport and have no intentions of running your rifle hard. The UTG rail will do fine. If you rely on your rifle to promote your safe existence or run the sh*t out of your gear. I'd pass for a better brand and better design.

Personally I prefer free floats from quality American manufacturers for several reasons. First, they're not made in a far away land with cheap labour and poor materials. Second, they have a far better reputation amongst service personnel abroad. Third, free float forends offer less stress on the barrel, better cooling, they protect your gas system, and they are capable of mounting optics and holding zero.

I ordered a UTG rail and 6 position stock online for $103 US. That includes shipping.
I will update when I receive it, hopefully it gets through U.S. customs.

great POST, flaunting US and CANADIAN ITAR Laws and then posting it on the interweb.... why not post your address as well as the dealers name and address so that he can be fined $50,000 or more, and the Jack Booted Thugs can kick down your door eh.....
