Hey guys , I'm a big tactical shotgun fan have done a bunch of training @ work with them. Want one for personal use ie range and home protection. I need something with reduced recoil as I have 2 bad shoulders. Any sugguestions would like something slick looking but can shot 50 rounds and not feel it the next day. Thanks

My 10 Year old has fired several rounds out of my Mossberg 930, and he is only around 60 lbs. So the recoil is not bad on those. (But I have not tried a heavy load in it, just light loads)

20ga 870 Compact, with a Knoxx SpecOps stock.
has pussycat recoil, but if you need to reduce the recoil even further there are 20ga managed recoil buck and slug loads. mag extensions can be had for the 20ga.

you can purchase a 20ga version of the Knoxx or buy a $10 ambi sling plate adaptor, and after a few min with a file/grinder make it into a 12-20ga stock adaptor and just use a 12ga Knoxx.

any good wussy pad with managed recoil loads will make 12 ga. very tame. Even for those with shoulder injuries. My best friend has a really bad right shoulder and he enjoys shooting magnum loads out of my Benelli with a slip-on limbsaver. Being trained I take it you know proper form and mount which is key to comfort and control.

Gonna start looking for one now looks sweet and like the idea od 20g.

Mesa tactical has collapsible stocks with recoil absorbers in them, apparently they work quite well... They make for the 870 and the benelli I believe

buy this and you wont feel a thing. i use it for all my guns. i figure it takes away about 70% of recoil. even with bad shoulders you can probubly shoot magnum loads with ease. the thing is its not only soft but it is wide so it distributes the force evenly.
i recomend 100%!

You can always buy reduced recoil shotgun ammo, it's much easier to shoot than regular stuff and it still packs plenty of punch for whatever you might need it.

^there is a range of reduced recoil 20ga ammo as well.
just sayin.

people seem to avoid the 20ga because they assume that anything less than 12ga is inadequate, or a big sacrifice.
12ga recoil doesnt bother me much, so i mainly choose 12s because both guns and parts are just more common... but i wouldnt feel 'undergunned' with a 20ga. #3 buck from a 20ga will ruin anyone's day, and you can buy premium Brenneke magnum slugs if you want something for wildlife protection/hunting.

if you order the 20ga 870 Compact, try it with the factory stock first -- IIRC it comes with the Remington SuperCell pad and should already be pretty low recoil. if you still need more recoil reduction you can pick up a Knoxx stock and/or managed recoil loads.

I have a 20ga rem 870 compact and find it amazing. I'm a smaller structure and don't have long arms so the main reason I got it was for its shorter length of pull. The recoil on it is pretty much nothing. I even have passed many slugs through it and its not that bad at all.

I would highly recommend it.
