What options are there for a "non restricted" tactical hunting rifle. I like the AR style or something close. Can be 22LR - 30.06 in caliber and either NIB or personalized mod. Suggestions and pics please..... I also want to do this on a budget. Possible uses are for small game, coyote/wolf and moose, dependent upon caliber of course.
 
Firstly, you have to decide what you actually want. A Ruger 10/22 in Tapco stock might fit the bill, or an XCR-M might be more what you're looking for. Very different rifles with very different uses in the field.

If it's legal in the location where you plan on hunting, 223 Rem with a 60gr Nosler is as effective on deer as the classic 30-30 Win 150gr at up to 100 yards.
By comparison, 30-06 180gr Partition will kill a moose cleanly at 250-300 yards.

- SR-22, 10/22 with stock mod, Mossberg Tactical, Remington 597 VTR, ISSC Scar Mk22

.223

- SU-16F, XCR-L, PE-90, Tavor, MR-1, AR-180B

7.62x39

- XCR-L, CZ 858, SKS with stock mod

.308

- XCR-M, RFB


Few pistol calibre carbines too, and tactical style shotguns. I'm sure I've forgotten some rifles.
 
I second the Robinson Arms XCR-M in 308win(7.62 nato)
The XCR-L also comes in 7.62x39 which is as effective as a 30-30 but WAY cheaper to shoot at a range with surplus ammo.
The L also comes in 223rem and 6.8 spc.


Unfortunately the XCR's are about $2,700. AR+ cheap + non restricted don't go together.
You can have 2/3 but not 3/3.
 
XCR-L in 6.8SPC loaded with 95gr TTSX @ 2825fps.

A 6.8SPC is basically a rimless 30-30 necked down to 270 cal the marriage of 2 of the most popular hunting cartridges in North America.

Checked out the Kel Tec SU-16F (.223) yesterday at the local gun shop, $935.00 out the door its is only legal for coyotes here on the Rock. Never feel in love with it at first sight. But it is light weight and versatile and there are accessories for it........... think I am going to keep looking

Wildlife has regulations down here to prevent people from buying a multi game rifle, for instance the 30-06 is the only rifle any one needs as it comes in 55gr - 225gr cartridges but we can only use that rifle for large game. On the up side we end up with more guns if we hunt multiple species.
 
How about a Norinco M14? The .308 will get the job done for sure.
Drop it in a fancy tactical stock with a scope on top and a 20 rd mag locked in and the Ontario game warden will be happy to confiscate it from you:stirthepot2::stirthepot2:

Whoops just realized you are asking from Newfoundland, not sure how the friendly enforcers on the rock feel about our scary looking guns, you might get away with it easier than here.
 
IF Moose, semi-auto, and non-restricted is on the menu...

.308 is the obvious choice, and that leaves.

7.62x39 or 6.8 SPC are a little too anemic for Moose IMHO.

Mayber Ruger Scout rifle? Not a semi-auto, but tactical looking bolt rifle for around $1000.
 
think I am going to start with a coyote gun as the season is the longest at approx 10 months, therefore I need a centerfire rifle with calibers between .17 REM up to and including .225 WIN
