Tactical/Modded SKS Picture Thread (can we sticky this?)

I couldnt find a recent thread so lets get some NON-STOCK sks pics, action shots, build pics or whatever you have post em up! anything that you have done to your SKS counts. (stock wood with a scope mount ect, all the way to full out modded tacticools) and list what parts or mods you have made or bolted on.

*** Purists please dont comment on how we should keep our rifles stock :p ***

Russian in a Tapco Intrafuse stock, tapco mags, magpul angled foregrip, NC Star bolt on muzzle brake, Williams front fiber optic post (did have it mated with tech sights)
then switched to Magwedge Kwik rail and a ZOS scope, overkill I know but it was cheap untill I can afford a smaller, better scope. And a homemade extended mag release, ATI featherlight bayo bipod.

isn't it bad to put the bipod on the barrel?

it is so ive heard. good thing mine is attached to the bayonet lug ;)

BAD isn't an exact enough word. "Has potential for unintended consequences." works better. Resting the barrel on a bipod will bend the barrel ever-so-slightly, resulting in a shift in point of impact vs point of aim. It's not a big deal with a 2-3 MOA rifle anyway. All the Soviet support weapons - RPR, RPK - used barrel-mounted bipods. I have read that the Soviets knew about the issue and compensated with training.

Here's the one I built following my 14 year old son's directions :)

Disclaimer: no intact, original milsurp SKS was used in this build! :D (started with a seriously buggered up barreled receiver)

so you can't use stripper clips? is that ok with you or do you just load up mags and deal with it that way?

I assume your talking to me? Yeah i run mags only. that was the plan from day 1. A small price to pay for an optics system that holds zero and protects optics

Another great scope rail is on the market.

It's sort of a cross between a choate side-mount and a magwedge full-length rail.

So it's a full-length side-mount, with shell deflector built in.

Rock solid and looks great.

Just curious why you would need a disclaimer?

Because I think that a nice, original military surplus rifle should not be permanently modified (i.e. drilling, cutting); this should be left for commercial rifles - but that's only my opinion! Good thing there are lots of commercial Norinco's out there :)

Ah you had me worried that I broke some rare firearms rule, Ya I kept all the furniture for both my SKS's and only modded the new stocks to fit the hardware, that being said all the parts I removed can easily be re assembled back to original.

Pick up a quick rail. Its the best way (and IMO the only way) to mount optics on a sks. The hand guard moves to much to hold zero.

I picked up a stock like this today. (yes I like the looks of yours,, LOL) It is a good fit on my gun but I don't think that I like the optics mount on the hand guard. It ruins the sight picture of the open sights and doesn't look rigid enough for optics. Have you tried putting optics on this gun?
No Im not really into optics on these rifles. I see it more as an iron sight battle rifle than a tack driver. The handgaurd rail does move a bit, so go with zeuces suggestion for a rail.
I've made some small changes since those first pictures though;

- M4 recoil/grip pad
- 3M cheek pad
- Remington sling
- Hogue Glock slip on grip
- Magpul handstop
- Painted handgaurd rail
- 10lb S-carabiner
- NC-Star short muzzle brake

Unseen mods:
- Pistol grip/trigger group removal mod
- Weights added to tube in buttstock for weight balance
- Tape under stock slide to better secure/stop movement

Here is a photo of my Russian with the new Tapco stock and bi-pod. (I did not cut the original bayonet, have it and the original stock put away in a safe place)

Also a photo of the Tapco hand guard mod. The 1/4" slot has been opened up with a 1/2" ball mill. This gives me a perfect sight picture with the open sights and keeps the rail fully functional for future use. (I did it on the milling machine but the same job could be done with a router table if care was taken to get the proper set-up.)
