I am looking for a sling to complete my AR.
16" flat-top upper w/Magpul stock, Eotech 511, ARMS 40 (modified by Sparrow), M3 on a GG&G mount (10 o'clock on the handguard), no extra sling attach points- just the standard one under the front sight and the plastic "loop/hole" in the Magpul for the rear. (OD furniture for the visually inclined).
Purpose: I am not in the Military, and do not carry for a living(as of March 29th, Woohoo!!). More for the sake of completing the "package" (and the odd Zombie patrol or house clearing:p ).

Interested in good quality, non/chafing materials and carry option flexibility.
I especially like the "off-side drop" and the "military patrol ready". I guess I'll need a attachment point btwn the magpull and the recvr for the off-side drop option. http://www.spectergear.com/carryoptions.htm

Considering:

All replies appreciated. If links need to be de-activated, let me know...
Not intended for solicitation/endorsement, just for visual purposes.

Thanks!!

I'm a little biased, but Blue Force Gear really is the best. :D

I am so confident in it, I will send you what you need, if you like it then send me a cheque.

If you don't like it send it back to me at my cost.

Take farmboy up on his offer. I just got an SOF pack from him made by Blue Force Gear. Even though the sling is a bit heavier and more complicated than the single points and 3 point slings that I am used to, this is the first sling that I am happy with because I can switch easily between 1 to 2 point within seconds. It is very versatile, and has all the options you need to figure out what configuration you like best with your AR.

Both GPMG and Farmboy are correct, the BF slings are top notch. In over 15000rds downrange last year wearing Wasatch, CIRAS and soft armour the standard sling with para-cord around the FSB and rear stock was easily the most comfortable, versatile and user friendly. JMHO, YMMV.

Hmmm. I think I'll try a BF sling for my M4 too.
Will this be too much sling for a tac shotgun? I was thinking just a simple sling for that.

Tell you what sport, send 100rds downrange for every dollar spent on fastex and molle...and buy some f**king mags...oh, one more thing...Your gun handling Sucks! You know who you are!

Ouch!!! That is just plain nasty.:D :D And funny.:)

I guess I'll have to pony-up and get one of the attachment points for single point btwn the magpul and the rcvr too. Anything that is quick install? The "timing' on the magpull threads was a ##### and I'm not too keen to have to re-install it.

Sounds like I'll try the BFG then. Thanks for the advice!!
PM on the way to FarmBoy...:D

keeping in mind that i'm not even allowed to legally use most of what i have. I'm a bit of a traditionalist. I like the plain jane standard issued black nylon sling for the C7. It's head and tails above all the crap slings that have come and gone through the system.

It's main draw is that it's uniquely configurable by the user. Most times I kept it normal. Other times I went patrol/israeli style, attaching to the front sight and para cording it to the small of the butt. And other times when doing fibua I went single point by looping it around the small of the butt and then making a big loop with the rest.

Going out on a limb and assuming here, but most of the new high speed/tactical slings appear to be designed for wearing full time while upright, which you dont do much of when conducting sect/pl attacks, or when going to ground. I might be wrong on this since i dont own any of the fancy slings (except for the crap issue patrol sling).

A few comments above have nailed it...it really does depend upon what you're going to be using your rifle/sling combo "for". For competition use (i.e. "Tactical Rifle", which really is just IPSC with a rifle, but WaaaaaY cooler because you get to wear neater stuff), a QD single-point sling is ideal. Snap it off the rifle when actually shooting; nothing to get in the way of quick reloads, etc., then snap the sling back on again for slinging the rifle for walking back to the firing line or between stages.
SubZero: Magpul makes a Single-Point sling attachment that installs in place of the little spacer plate that sits underneath, between the stock and the receiver. Takes a minute or two to install. The attachments come in "standard" slotted or "HK" style loops. Dave's Surplus have them. ;)

If I was using my rifle for "real fightin'" I doubt I would even consider a Single-point sling...I'd go with a 2 point (what I am/was used to), or a new-fangled 3 point like the BFG sling above. In fact, I think I'll order a BFG sling anyhow. I'm getting tired of my H&K hooks breaking and digging my AR out of the sand at Custer.

I just bought one of the UDC Single Point slings from Farmboy... I'll post my thoughts when I get it. I think single point will be more comfortable that 'old school' two pointers....

Six Star...

You'll have to let me have a grope of that sling, please and thanks in advance.

I am always intrigued by these "one, two , three, or more-point slings", but I fear that I would end up tying my rifle to my belt by accident, and having to use my bayonet for toilet paper. I am curious to see how idiot-resistant the BFG bondage device is.... because my idiocy requires a great deal of resistance!!

Dropping your rifle, eh? You know, back in MY day wearing green for the Queen, that would have resulted in some pretty severe punishment!

;)

Neal (and Val - still procrastinating about getting to the store to purchase her new combat tupperware).

But of course...I won't be ordering one until next week, but I'm definitely getting one from farmboy.

Yep. Rather embarrassing, and made even worse because Powerwagon was there to watch it go into the ground like a tentpeg when the HK style hook failed. I was furious having paid $14.95 AMERICAN for that Uncle Mike's single point sling, too....:p :D

Due to overwelming responce the last couple months there is a bit of a wait on some of the slings.

If you are looking for black Contractor Paks, P & D does (I think) still have some in stock as well as 1 RCR kit shop.

Other new dealers now include Elwood Epps and CP Gear. If you frequent any of those place just let them know what you would like.

Do it yourself sling

I made two of these slings for testing and decided I could do without the second quick release Fastex buckle.
I just kept the one that controls the free extension of the sling and did away with the one that permits opening it. I guess I'm still able to loop the sling over my head instead of clipsing it around me and my gear!
Now, I'll try to fashion one from 1 1/4" web belt and incorporate QR 1 1/4" Uncle Mike's swivels directly on the sling for some of my rifles that are so equipped.
PP.

I bought a Blue Force SOC-C Contractor Pak from Farmboy in OD Green. Great piece of kit and well worth the wait. I can use it for my SIG CQB, AR-15, or Tactical pump shotgun. Its well made, comfortable and well worth the money. The SOC-C convertible sling can be configured as a 1 Point, 2 Point or 3 Point sling.

The sling and vest strap work with the included eight(8) attachment adapters to fit every military small arm in the world: One(1) Attachment Band for M16A1/A2 and similiar buttstocks, One(1) Attachment Band for M4/M16 and similiar forearms, two(2) Attachment Straps for fixed sling loops, one(1) Universal Attachment Loop, medium, for CAR buttstocks, fixed AK, shotgun, etc., one(1) Universal Attachment Loop, long, for fixed AK, shotgun, etc., and two(2) HK hook adapters.

You can check out the pak at: http://www.blueforcegear.com/product.cfm?type=cat&cat_id=5&prod_id=59

Farmboy, another supporting CGN dealer, can hook you up no problem!

The other sling I'd recommend is the Specter Gear (formerly CQB Solutions) SOP (Special Operations Patrol) Sling. It is 1.5" wide and is designed to better distribute the weight of your rifle/shotgun. It also has a Transition Release Buckle TRB that allows you to instantly create slack in the sling to transition to the off shoulder. You also have the option of buying the SOP sling with an Emergency Release Buckle system that permits you to quickly remove the entire sling from your body. The sling is easily configured for different carries and is extremely comfortable. You can check it out at the link below, plus Dave's Tactical & Surplus, a CGN supporting dealer, stocks them. Check it out at: http://www.spectergear.com/sop_sling.htm

 That is allot of kit!!
