Tactical/Practical AR sling questions/suggestions?

All this big boy talk about transition drills and single and triple attachment points is making me feel like I need more brandname gear to be in the gang.

I have very conventional two point slings on my hunting rifles; never felt any need for anything fancier than Uncle Mikes detachable swivels.

Carried FNC1s, SMGs and C7s with two point slings; didn't find any particular inadequacies until Bosnia when I had to stand alot with my rifle at hand. I'll admit it is hard to unsling over your head when wearing body armour and a helmet. So the CF Patrol Sling got my attention by being able to sling the C7 diagonally across my chest (very good muzzle control when looking inside a vehicle). Especially like being able to hang it from the rear swivel down my right leg. Until someone makes the Patrol Sling significantly better, it is my choice.

Now, I'll let the HSG'heads* get back to namedropping and chinwagging.

:p :D
When I was installing the new set-up, I thought it was overkill. "Too bulky", "too many parts", "too high-speed", "doesnt work with the M3 set-up", "maybe I'll sell this off and go simple", etc.
Once I had it installed and tried it out, it was like "Ohhhhhh, now I get it." Changing from one, two or even 3 point takes almost no time. Way more carry options and works just fine with the light installed on the handguard. Need to drop the rifle and go for the secondary/back-up (not in the military, and my neighborhood isn't that bad ** although there was a police takedown in front of my house yesterday...) and the AR drops out of the way nicely.
I am the first guy to thumb my nose at HSG but if it works, it works. I'm still suspicious of LFG (Looks Fast Gear) though.
Thanks again to Farmboy. Zombies Beware!!! :p

So if you were to wear a sidearm it would be on your left side, right?

The rifle needs to fall to you weak side, and be out of the way of your sidearm.

The metal button on the front that never works is just horrible, not to mention it takes fine motor muscle skills to undo the button (when working).

The C7 patrol sling always has an issue, from the button, to the little rubber and plastic stoppers that are always broken so it requires more paracord and duct tape. This is always allowed for some reason even though it makes the troops look more rag tag than proper after market kit.

The C7 patrol sling is only made for the C7.

The C7 patrol sling is only made for patroling.

With Blue Force Gear slings you have a choice of 1, 2 and 3 point slings with one sling as well as the ability to attach it to any weapon you are carrying that day.

But you might say that the average soldier is only going to be using his issued weapon!!

That's right, he is, however he will be useing it in multiple tasks from patrolling to gate duty, to CQB and other situations where the issue slings don't perform but hinder.

The one thing I hated most about the issue slings was mounting and dismounting. I would require 10 min. of fumbling around to get the thing off you, to be able to get in the vehicle.

With the BFG slings you unhook a Fastex buckle and you in, or out with the weapon ready to go.

Also in a situation were you need to release the weapon in a hurry you can.

Until someone makes the Patrol Sling significantly better, it is my choice.

Blue Force Gear has made a sling significantly better,

are you willing to try it at no cost to you?

I will ship you a sling with adaptors that fit the rifle you are using for free. If you don't like it after 3 weeks of useing it, send it back to me COD, AND tell everyone here the problem with the sling.

If you do like it, you can pay me what you think it's worth.

I've PM'ed Farmboy to accept his offer. And I will report back to this thread after the trials.

In the example I described above, I was not issued a 9mm. My primary weapon would have been my C7.

(I wonder if I act stubborn and opinionated at the Jeep dealer if things will work the same way ....?

I received my UDC single point sling from Farmboy this past week. Good looking piece of kit! Easy to adjust, and I like being able to swap out adapters for different guns.

The only complaint I have is regarding the paint on the 'HK style' hook. My sling plate has already scratched most of the paint off the hook. Farmboy says this is a known issue with BFG, and they are working to fix the problem. Overall GREAT experience with Darren, and I will definately recommend them to others!

We just received some huge shipments from Blue Force Gear.

We are almost all stocked up on it :D

Other stocking dealers now include:

P&D Enterprises
Target Sports Center
1 RCR Kit Shop
CP Gear
Elwood Epps

Some of the new slings include an improved Isreali and a C9 two and three point.

FWIW - I think the BFG SOC-C sling is the cats ass.

I have recently switched to the RVS (that now comes as part of the Contractor pack) - For what I do the 1pt is predominant - and I found that the "normal" part of the slign would slip off my RAV onto my shoulder and over time cause chaffing and discomfort -- but those not using a Releaseable Vest (ie. RAS or CIRAS) cant go that route.

As well the US SOF community is have an excellent time with the V-TAC sling (mandating I hear in some of the SF CQB courses)

Either way the SOC-C sling can be configured in any manner to suit the users needs.

AAhhh

But with the MOLLE vest sling (which attaches to the MOLLE on the back of the vest) or the just the regular vest sling (which attaches to the d-rings) everybody is covered :D

I made one of the ar15.com slings. Total cost was $11.36 from a local textile store.

I am not entirely sure how to wear it because if I adjust it so it is tight when I get it shouldered it is a bit hard to get up to my shoulder in the first place.

Do you have a picture of it on you?

Maybe we could help you get it worked out.

Take a look at the top pic and see the level the weapon is hanging at, you want to be able to bring it up without it being tight, and be able to transition to your opposite shoulder as well.
