How about this as an ideal bush-buster for deer - a Remington 7400 Carbine in 30-06 with Williams rear peep sight, Tru-glo front sight, and an ATI collapsable stock?:dancingbanana:

I put it together about 2 weeks ago and finally got to test fire it last weekend. Was hitting the 200 yard gong at the target range every time, and even managed to keep it "minute of whitetail" out to a full 300 yards. (Best 100 yard group was just over 1 inch with factory Winchester PP loads.)

Zero jams, very nice shooting with the stock in place. It's nice in that you can adjust the length of pull to several different lengths.

Can't complain on the caliber either; the '06 blows away the 7.62x39 any day of the week! :D

FLAME INCOMING!!:runaway:

Absolutely beautiful! I had a 7400 in .30-06 awhile back, and it accounted for the biggest Whitetail I've ever shot. :)

Good one! There are magazines that will fit either 76 or 74 series that hold more than 5 rounds.

Check out what these folks do to the 7400's

I have a 18.5" barreled Rem 7400 30-06 synthetic carbine. I was starting to think that these guns where the biggest pieces of junk that I ever handled.

I bought one a few years ago and the first shot wouldn't even eject. I returned the rifle and was supplied another one right away.

This new one jammed constantly or if I pushed the mag in firmly it would pop past the trigger guard and jam the entire action up. I would have to remove the trigger assembly to get the mag out again.

I finally got feed up with it and took the rifle into Shane @ Reliable Gun's in Vancouver because he is the Remington warranty repair shop.

After a few month's of waiting for parts to arrive and some gunsmith work the 7400 now works perfectly every time resulting in me having a gun that is a lot of fun and totally reliable. I am even happy with the accuracy for now.

I mounted a Leupold Vari X 1X-4X scope on mine.

Just think you could do that to your Whelan pump. You would be the terror of the bush. When the deer are standing arround laughing about your gun you can sneak up and do a tactical assault on them.:p

hunting + tactical = retarded.

pick your camp. do you want to be a mallninja or a hunter?

x2.... turrets on a hunting rifle is as far as I can take it, and even then I feel a little wierd, and only my varmint rifle wears them thus far.

Dress up soldiers and hunting don't mix!

Don't mind the old grumpy men who are stuck in the 1920s around here
I think it looks a little odd, but I kept harping on Supercub to find me and old 742 or 7400 in 308 to do the same thing to. That said, I would shorten the barrel (I was gonna trim it back to 18.5, maybe throw on a lil flash arrestor), and go with some cool glass rather than iron sights. 308 is the way to go though, and with the PMP milsurp here now, it would be fun to burn a 742 to the ground with a thousand rounds of milsurp :)
All the same it is good to see the stock seems to fit pretty well.
