Tactical Rimfire Issues

I am planning on buying a tactical rimfire and i have been looking on the internet reading and watching videos for the selected choices and wanted to ask some questions.

My choices have been narrowed down to the:
-> Ruger SR-22
-> S&W M&P 15-22 <(*more this though)

When i was watching videos on youtube. I saw pretty much all negative comments about the Ruger SR-22 and the 597 VTR having many problems, mostly with either the extractor or the ejector. Now the videos i have been watching were in 2009, so has Ruger done anything about these issues in newer models now?

Also, the same question goes for the Smith & Wessen, have they fixed the issues in their newer models as well. So far, my fingers are pointing towards this gun the most, but the SR-22 keeps bringing me back because of the wonderful "Non-Restricted" label. I would like to decide sooner or later :)

If you guys could help me out with my questions, or point me towards a good solution that would be excellent. I want to train with a .22LR AR platform to get used to it until i can afford a .223 AR.

I'm in the exact same boat... .. that $399 for the VTR is attractive too. I've ruled out the S&W for the restricted reason. I've already got an AR that I can't bring anywhere I want.
 
Go with the SR-22. Range only toys aren't as much fun. Going into the bush and shooting crap is fun.

If you have extractor issues, there are a billion aftermarket parts for the 10/22 platform. A new upgraded extractor is cheap.
 
I have a Nordic kit for a 1022 for sale in the EE if that helps. Most 1022's I find shot pretty straight..!!

I was a little concerned after watching youtube myself, they make the vtr look terrible. I ended up going with an sr22 got it 3 weeks ago. Tons of aftermarket options, also Ive put over 1000 rounds through it and had it jam only once.
 
I just got the new version of the 597 VTR that came with the collapsable stock and piccatiny rail upon the recommandation of a friend of mine which is a gunsmith at Remington who told me that major problems where resolved on it.
 
Get the SR-22 and spend an extra $13 on a Volquartsen extractor. You should be rid of extraction issues and have a non-restricted black (.22) rifle.
 
I also got the SR22. When I first watched all the videos about the sr and the VTR i decided to go with the SR. Not only do i think it looks sweeter, but I was also finding only good info on the gun. unlike the VTR which to be honest i tried to find something good on the internet about it, but for some reason every video and every written description had mostly bad to say about it.
The Ruger is definately my pick for all the aftermarket parts and all, and for me the m and P was sweet to but i need a non resticted gun. I cant afford the range membership and frankly I wasnt willing to spend over 600 dollars on a .22 esspecially one that was restricted. SR22 all the way.
 
I have read that Mossberg is entering tactical rimfire market. Maybe worth waiting for?

My SR-22 doesn't have any problems. Cute little rifle to shoot. However, for my nowdays goals - useless. If I would be able to go back and to reconsider my purchase, I would go with good bolt rifle in .22 instead. So, if not for my husband who wants to keep it, I would be selling it already.

Brownells carries all the Volquartsen stuff and they are on the registered factory list...

...so just keep your order under $100 US (wholesale) and your parts will be here within 2 weeks.
