Hey folks...

Looking to set up a tactical shotty and looking for your advice.

Did a search "shotgun" & "optic" did see anything really specific. I did spent ALOT of time on the "Lets see some pics of your tactical shottys!" thread. Tons of cool set-ups.

My question: Are you able to acquire your target more quickly with "optics" on a tactical shotgun. Could be a red dot etc.

I know this will be personal preference for the most part. I see most of the ppl who posted pictures on the thread i mentioned were running ghost ring set up. Then i saw bead sights and then some optics. I have a 14" 870 and have a 8.5" Grizz on the way. Collapsible stock, pistol grip etc etc. I am just wondering if it is worth the money to upgrade from bead sights.

Appreciate your wisdom.

Personally, I like optics.

Your eye is focusing on the dot over the target rather than the rear sight, front sight, and the target.

If the dot fails, frame the target in your aperture, you will hit it. May not be where you want it, but you'll hit it.

I like ghost rings. They won't fail, and I think (IMHO, don't flame me!!) if you need optics on a shotgun, you should be using a rifle instead.

Bead sight all the way ,imo a Wilson combat big dot night sight is best , day or night just like a bead , easy to pick up and fast! If you get proficient with a shotgun , shoot lots , you will be faster with a bead or big dot every time.

My wife has a Burris speedbead red dot on her 3 gun shotgun and loves it. She shoots open, so all of her guns have red dots - very consistent for her and quick to acquire.
