Tactical Shotgun Stock Preferences/Showdown

Used them all.

Of the posted list, I like the Urbino the most. Comfortable ergonomics, but I do not like the raised comb as it snags on everything. I prefer the clean lines such as on the Benelli M2 pistol grip stock - no snags.

I like the idea of the Magpul's adjustability but I do not find it comfortable in the shoulder and it seems to magnify recoil.

The adjustability of the AR-15 furniture is nice, but it adds to both weight and potential for snags. Some can be very comfortable to shoot. It's not bad, but I don't care for it.

Hogue will get the job done but it is cheap and flimsy. Hogue products are bottom of the barrel.

I have a couple of 870s and an M2. I have an older 870 Police with a 14" barrel with one of Remington's first lightweight synthetics. It has no brand marks and was likely dirt cheap, but it eats recoil from heavier loads and is incredibly comfortable in the shoulder. The other 870 is the more recent "Tactical" with no modifications so it still sports the SPS type butt. Fast, simple, no snags, efficient, and eats up all the recoil of heavy loads. And without all the extra crap sticking out, it never gets hooked on anything in the bush or when pulling it out from behind the truck seat. The M2 has the pistol grip stock which is very comfortable but lacks the raised comb of the Urbino so it never gets hung up on anything.

Ended up going Urbino! Should arrive in the mail shorty. If this turns out to be a complete tradgety standy on the EE for a deal ;-)

I shall report my findings regardless on here and the end result for the 'hobo tactical' project.

Project Completed! Slapped some duracoat on it so it didn't look awful.

Mesa Tactical Urbana Stock

Over the years I found I do not prefer pistol grip on a 12 gauge.

Although I do have two shotguns that have pistol grips currently...a Hatsan & ATACS 870.

I also have an MK12, but the jury is still out on how I like that platform's pistol grip...since it's an AR type.

Any other ones I had I've since swapped out or gotten rid of.

I guess I don't like how the 12ga recoil slams into my palm and wrist when at that angle.

Between these two setups, I'm content as far as the stocks go. I'd personally love for Mesa to make an Urbino stock for the Mossberg 500, but they don't.

Got a Mesa LEO with a Magpul something-or-other. Recoil is much less jarring to the face than the factory 870 stock, I'm not running a fancy recoil reducing buffer tube or anything and shoot 3" loads and slugs with it all day. The LOP adjustment is nice, whether it's for winter clothing or what have you. Taken it out into the bush tons of times and haven't had a snag issue. The Magpul stock has a sling point at the very end, the stock adapter itself also has one. Running the safety left handed is a bit harder with the pistol grip, instead of rolling the hand after coming off safe like I'd do with the standard stock it's a few extra steps.

I have no experience with the LEO adapter but I've tried all the others. The Urbino looks cool and is really comfortable to shoot but I've owned two and they both shook themselves loose over time. That bugged me. The Hogue is rock solid and grippy but I found that the 14" LOP was too long and the 12" was too short. Picking nits here probably. Once I tried the SGA I understood the hype. I hated the looks initially but it grew on me. Now I love it.

Magpul SGA and LEO. Looking at the picture I'd never really noticed the similar grip angles. SGA is solid and cost effective. The LEO is nice tricked out with the hydraulic buffer, but I think makes shooting a bit mushy and I wonder if it slows down follow ups.
