Hi there fellow Nutterz.

I was wondering if I could trouble your collective knowledge by asking about what options exist for tactical 20Ga. SGs. (Yes, I'm a bit of a recoil wuss). Makes, models, and recommended accessories would all be appreciated.

Thanks all, I look forward to your responses.

You can get an 870 in 20 gauge. I would think that shooting slugs or buckshot, the felt recoil wouldn't be much less than the 12 though.

Leroy Thompson wrote and article a few years back on the "Whipit 20 guage shotgun", a 15" shottie used by 1950's armoured car drivers.

German pilots were issued a cut down 20 guage during the WW2.

Sears Roebuck used to sell a really cut down 20 guage side by side called a "burglar gun" meant for homeowners.

Using a 20 guage for tactical purposes....use the largest guage you can handle too easy. Wilson Combat does sell 20 guage 870 accessories (used to anyway).....

If it was more accepted, I would buy a 20 gauge for the wife, shorten the barrel, collaspable stock with pistol grip, light and laser. Load it with 00 buck. It would make a good home defense gun. At the ranges found inside a house, a 20 gauge will do nicely, faster to bring onto target and less recoil, giving faster followup shots. A 12 gauge even with lighter loads would be to much for her.
