And what what kind of shells were you using?

I meant the original post, I could work out if he'd tried it and was passing on wisdom or complaining about some else.

When my mossy 590 sows up later this week I'll give it a go and find out for myself :)

I've had good luck at redneck clays with an 870 Marine Magnum with Wilson Combat ghost ring sights and a cylinder bore barrel... The trick is to keep both eyes open :).
 
If your tactical shotgun is cylinder bore which most are, I would try #7 1/2 or #6 shot . My theory is, if the pattern is big and you are only going to hit the bird with a few pellets they had better be bigger pellets . If you have screw in chokes you should be able to break the birds the same as the trap guns, you just have to deal with lead and sight radius with a shorter barrel.
