Can you do anything with 5.56 ammo? I've heard there are a lot of americans who hunt with that calibre.

unfortunately, no, our regulations specifically says : 6mm and over... or i would just have got the sig black special

If you want to stand out, get an AR-10. It looks cool, especially if you accessorize it, and it is totally legal to zap a deer with.

The AR-10 is restricted unfortunately, but you indeed found exactly the owrds I have been looking for all night long!!

I do not wish to go out there with a rifle with a surefire, fake supressor, etc... just stand out from the wooden semi-auto .300 ultra super supra short magnum maxi power big brass 5000fps guys and the old .30-30 beaters

Maybe something is getting lost in translation, but IMHO You don't sound mature enough to be a conservation officer.

{room goes silent}

We were all thinking it.

You seem more interesting in looking cool than taking the course seriously. You are required to go on a deer hunt, take an appropriate firearm.

If I was in the course, god forbid instructing, and you showed up for the hunt with a CX4 with the argument that it was larger than 6mm, I'd make it my poersonal reposibilty to flunk you and send your info to every agency in the country so you couldn't get a job in the conservation field.

Ok then, why not a full wood Number 4 Enfield with the bayonet attached?
If anyone asks just tell them it's a tactical 7.7mm rifle from 1940ish.
Now that would be different...

What I really wonder about is why is someone who admits to not having any interest in hunting wants to be a conservation officer?

i do have interest in hunting ! as cited in one of my previous posts, i take down every predator i see and go bear hunting every year, i also killed my part of small game and ducks;) i simply don't have much interest in moose, deer, and such...

Two words, Jungle Carbine!! - completely appropriate, more than enough power and one of the original Tacticool rifles (check the flash hider) or as mentioned several times the CZ858 with a short mag, and rail set up, you could throw a Doc Optic on the front. If Robarms had their sh*t together an xcr in 6.8 would be perfect.

Get what you want , don't ask others what you should have to look cool at a job training. Remember a first impression is what your instructor will have when he sees you with your tactical hunting rifle. Good or bad , first impressions are what makes or breaks some some job applicants. But if you are asking , have a well looked after but worn Winchester 94 in 30-30 or a well cared for scoped bolt action in .308 or 30.06. And know how to use them , come across as someone who knows how to hunt and look after himself in the bush, not as a Mall Ninja want to be. Just remember this is job training , not show and tell.

Slowbalt - good for you. From reading this post you are pro-firearms and "may" become a conservation officer. thats a good thing. You dont feel the need to kill defenceless animals. I Hope you do well on the course and remember that all us guys in the field with our non-restricted rifles are good guys :) Im sure that any good rifle will do, but...

Get an M14 (M305) and chop it down to a SOCOM style (170mm/18.5inch) carbine. that would be "cool" and legal. Better yet with an Aimpoint ML2 on a SOCOM mount. Non restricted and legal.

By the way, learn how to shoot. Im only assuming that you"ll need a suitable optic. Ive seen ACOG (3x) on M14s Otherwise get a scoped M14.

If you haev cash, get a SAGE stock. But the standard or synth M14 stock should be good. Provided you can hit your target and not act like a complete idiot in the field, you should so well in your course. good luck :)

by all means then dont listen to those offering you advice on this site, use a tacticool rifle on your course, just dont whine to us when your instructor singles you out and gives you a hard time.

Now I have an M14, SKS, CZ858, M1 Carbine (nonrest) and two AR15 rifles, and I would not use any of them on the course like the one you are talking about. Get a decent mauser, enfield, or lever rifle, then after you pass the course then get/use your non restricted black rifle for general use.

Ahh, I think I understand where your coming from now. The coolest no one has ever seen is one of the super modified Garands I seen floating around, or split the difference and go with a semi automatic Benelli R1 rifle in just about any caliber, put a light handgrip etc and it looks pretty cool, don't know if you can do anything with the mag though. Otherwise xwhatever for the dressed up M305 CZ858 idea.

Bonus points if you show up dressed in uniform of country using whatever rifle you pick:D
