Tacticool Deer Rifle

You're still missing the point hopefully it will be your loss and not hunters who have to deal with you down the road.

Again get with the program - get a hunting rifle for the course.

Down the road with some experience if you still think you need a CX-4 in 45ACP get it then. Now is the time to shut-up, listen and learn on course and not be trying so hard to look cool and "make your callsmates drool". (and your instructors cringe:mad:)

Actually, to be more accurate, what you're asking is closer to this: if you were asked to bring your own car to a mechanic school and you showed up in this, would you learn something?

Wow, nice car! Makes you (just about) want to have kid!

Now if they only made this one with machine gun mount...

OK, back on subject... If "I" be looking for a rifle to take on a CO course, I'd be looking for a nice Mauser in either 8x57 or 375H&H

Since you never what you'll come across and it what mood it will be in, why take a chance with a lesser caliber!

If you have to be tacti-cool, just get a take-down model (to keep in you drag-bag)

Oups! Just about forgot this was the balck and green forum... So if you don't want a 375, and really have the have a black or green gun... There's always the Steyr SSG 69

Can't ..help.. but.. post.

We were all young once fellows take it easy on him. ;)

Slowbait, Have you thought of packing a 12g instead of a rifle?

A Fabarm would get the looks you seem to be after, and would do the job.
I would suggest dropping the .45 as a deer round, but, what do all the people here know anyway.

p.s you will need as many striders as you any carry, but from what I can glean from your posts you knew that already. ;)

actually the more I look at it I might just pack my rem tactical express mag... but I was already in the market for a new gun ... maybie the dlask shortie... but I think of it more as a back-up gun

edit : slowly making a choice , however which would be the most precise rifle ? the CZ58 or the M305 ??

Also, anyone ever saw an over-under with 2 rifled bores?

CZ858 - Cheap plinking ammo right now (czech corrosive steel core), some go-fast parts, looks badass, the kit usually comes with 4 mags so that's a bonus, similar to a 30-30, i would imagine it's lighter to carry.

M14 - More power better range, lots of go fast parts, can accurize the rifle if you want, can turn it into a short door kicker, more expensive ammo, not sure about the availability of surplus plinking ammo, similar to a .30-06,

Both holds 5 rounds, both are semi, both have hunting ammo available off the shelf.

you will impress people more with your accuracy then the with the weapon...

... Will this equipment be used in your position as a CO ? You should be looking at what the weapon is ultimately going to be used for, and if so in what capacity. Is it for culling, putting down an injured animal, personal protection, or at the end of it all will it end up at the range? I hunt with a remington senduro sf 700 in a .300 win mag, with bipod and 9-24X optics. This rifle/calibre is effective in dropping any size game in north america and is accurate out to a range of 1100 meters. It looks sharp, it shoots sharp, it doesn't break the bank. It is a bit heavy for some, so you will have to wiegh out your pro's and con's. If you are looking for a weapon for HD or PD as well as something that will drop a deer or bear, try the remington 870PM with a 20 inch barrel, and rifle sights. It can be expanded out to carry 8+1 cartridges, and when it comes to HD or PD nothing makes a sphincter pucker like the action of a pump SG. And if all else fails and you really want to impress...the Barrett .50 is currently good on soft targets at 2.34 km.

if they let me, i'll have it with me at all times, but it will most likely ( like all my guns) end up at the range, as I do 99.99% of all my hunting with my 870

"...I do 99.99% of all my hunting with my 870..." That's what you should take then. It means you can shoot well with it. If you want it to look 'cool' and still be functional, put a pistol grip stock on it. Not just a pistol grip. They're useless.

As a hunter, and admirer of the Black/Green scene heres my $.02

Take your favorite gun you now possess- then when you're ready, buy a sweet one for the range!

Impress your fellows with your woodsman's skills, friendship, leadership. Don't try to alienate them with a "better/cooler rifle.

Impress your instructors with your knowledge and enthusiasm. Few people have both.

Both hunters and CO's share a love of the woods, and the thrill of the hunt. Lets all work together to keep the sport safe, lawful, and alive. Remember that when you pull me over at the roadcheck.

Here endeth the sermon.....

SlowBalt the Alberta COs have several Berretta Storms in both 40 and 45 they use for eradicating wildlife but these are not your over the counter firearms
